Definitely not GTX 680. The performance difference to GTX 670 just isn't there to justify the difference in cost. For 1080p, GTX 670 at $400 is amazing already. 7950 3GB is almost as fast and even better value for money at around $300. Depending on your upgrade cycle, you might be better off spending $300 now and saving the rest for an upgrade later. In any case, I don't recommend going higher than 670.

Get a 670.

I have 670's and a good buddy has 680's. With our rigs nearly identical(3750k vs my 3770k), the only place his 680's beat my 670's is in benchmarks. In everyday gaming situations, even when we disable SLI and test, they are pretty much identical. Any time it is brought up, he doesn't feel the additional $200 spent was worth it.

A 680 is the worst possible buy besides the 690 right now. 670, 7970 or bust.

Asus GTX670 DirectCUII for $380 or HD7970 1Ghz versions. GTX680 is poor value. Asus DCUII 670 is one of the quietest cards. Above $420 range, Sapphire Vapor-X and Gigabyte Windforce 3x 1100mhz seem like better cards to me than most 680s outside of the $560 White Edition SOC Galaxy card clocked at 1267. This is over your budget though which makes the 1100mhz 7970 cards default versions for $450.

I own a PNY GTX680 and 2 EVGA GTX670 FTWs. I "had" to have the GTX680 when it came out and I paid a premium. The EVGA GTX670 FTW is so close in performance ( and @ $100 cheaper) it's amazing. If you go Nvidia get a GTX670.

BTW, I had the EVGA GTX670 FTWs running in SLI in my one 2500k rig for awhile and all I can say is they are jaw droppers in performance. Stunning.

The advice always used to be to go for the fastest single card available. Then the price points all moved up a notch and the common wisdom seems to be to buy at the top of the reasonable price bracket.

thanks a lot guys. I think i'm going to get the 670. Thanks :)

Good, I would recommend a GTX670 too. At home I got a GTX680 (Before GTX670 was launched) and the GF a GTX670. And if I was to buy today I would have bought a GTX670 for myself as well.

Is that offically supported now?, AMD primary and NV for PhyX?....if not, why not just get a 680 and be done with it?

In my case it was cheaper to do it this way. Paid $300 for the 7970 and was hoping to get the GTS 450 used for about $50 or so. But now I am thinking the 650 may just pay for itself based on power savings.
