To Eyefinity or not?

A friend of a friend has three 23" 1080p LCD's (Acer) for an Eyefinity setup and wants to trade them for a single, larger monitor. I told him I would think about trading him my I-Inc 28" 1920x1200 and he agreed.

I've never used an Eyefinity setup before and would definitely try first but wanted to see what everyone here thought before I made the hour drive to try it out. I only have a single 6850 but wouldn't mind shelling out another $100 or $200 for a big dog to help drive it.

I think the added real estate would also be nice. I did do a screen size comparison on the internet and physically, the three 23" screens would have exactly 2x the surface area of the single 28". The 28" is 50% larger than a single 23", but x3 things change.

Thanks in advance.

I paid about $210 roughly 6-8 months ago. I got a deal with Tiger Direct and Bing and some crazy sale TD had on it. It was selling for $349 so I got almost $150 off of it.

from my experience: if you don't need to do any gaming, eyefinity is great! (i just couldn't get used to it even with bezel correction and some games just weren't made to deal with resolutions like that, so everything was wack (yes the older games))

in terms of office productivity, 2x 1080p screens was enough for me. 3... i dunno.

at least one thing is sure: make sure you have the space on your desk! even in portrait mode they take up a lot of space!

It's amazing for gaming and I can't imagine ever going back. Kinda sad though that I am so spoiled by it that I refuse to play any game that does not support it. Luckily it seems the majority of major new releases do support it and/or have hacks for them. Even some older games worked suprisingly well.

I don't care for it much outside of gaming, I never need to see that much stuff at once and some things don't work too well (especially movies/netflix). But if you need to see 3 screens filled of info that alt-tabbing does not suffice, you are pretty awesome/geek.

This is one thing I'm afraid of. I have a 92" 720p theater setup that I game on with my 360 and sometimes some PC games in my HTPC. If I get the Eyefinity setup and love it I'll probably hate going into the theater (family room) and gaming because it's not as immersive.

I've used eyefinity and I also have a 720p projector setup. I have never gamed on a 28" monitor, but I definitely prefer the projector over the eyefinity setup. Not sure if that helps you at all but I thought i'd throw in my 2 cents.
