I have Geforce 3 Ti/200 right now, and i was thinking about doing dual monitor setup. I was looking around for a real cheap PCI video card for the second monitor. I was wondering what kind of PCI card, or how much memory I need. Since I won't be playing any games on the PCI card, would even 2 - 4 MB PCI video card be enough?

thanks.

I have had a dual monitor setup with a GF2MX and a 4mb Matrox Mystique 220, and for just plain old 2d stuff it's been brilliant :)

I also have a 2mb card here and a 1mb card here which i use on my other computers as the main cards and they work great too, even in Windows XP with all the eye candy turned on :)

Ok. Thanks a lot. So i'll just spend a few bucks and get something like 4MB PCI card.

Be warned that many NVidia chip based cards don't behave well in multi-VGA situations, and also make sure your "new" card and its drivers support it.

If you want a cheap and safe bet in the range you said, get a card with an SiS 6326 on. That was about the first chip to support the Windows approach to multi-VGA properly, and its latest drivers aren't too old either. Matrox Mystique would be fine too, especially because they have a jumper to de-VGA-ize them, that'll help if you have one of those non-multi-VGA-ing NVidia cards.

I have the MSI GF3 Ti 200 64MB AGP and ATI Radeon 7000 64MB PCI in the same system and once I updated drivers for the ATI card everything runs great and very stable.

No idea. Try and see for yourself (no risk of frying something - at least no more risk than with any other DIY attempt :)).

I would go on ebay and search for "matrox millenium." You can get a decent card for $15, and I have heard nothing but good things about them. (As long as you don't try to play games on it or anything ;>) I got a 4MB card for $15 w/shipping.

Good luck, and here's to hoping your motherboard is compatible! (I haven't been able to get an All in Wonder PCI to work on my Soyo, so it can happen).
