I need to look into another trap set here soon, I'm lookin for a 5 piece, possibly Tama.

what are good shells, heads, etc.

Ludwig has some pretty decent entry stuff these days, Also you can get a good set of Mapex Mars Pro shells for pretty decent if you spend some time on eBay and Craigslist.

5k will buy you a fvck of a lot more than a 5 piece. Rackmount sets are sweeet, but take a lot to move. Go to a Guitar Center or other music store and play around on stuff. Find something you like and ask the clerks about their experiences, sine most of them are also musicians. Ward Brodt will just try to sell you some shiatty set for lots of money, so don't listen to them.

DW is the best. You could probably get something for under $5k from them. What are your needs? Does 5k include hardware and cymbals?

Always a fan of the Lud. I was actually interested in a rack mount set. I'm not against spending more than 5K, but I was just wanted to get a general idea. I've been playing for a long time, used a lot of different sets, and I gotta say I like Tama. OCDP is out of this world expensive, but worth it I know.


No 5k is to include rack, snare, toms, bass, cym.

anyone used Zild. Z Customs?

Zildjian Zs are more for heavy hitters and loud volumes. Of course it's all preference. I have read about the new K Hybrids. I'd really like to pick up a ride from that line.

For the set, they're all going to be pretty comparable HOWEVER you can pick up some decent all maple sets for under $1500 like Mapex and Sonor. If you want a custom set I know of a builder who quoted me ~$2500 for a 7 piece custom maple shell pack.

Aw hell, it's up to you really. If you find something you like who cares if it's a ZBT?!! If it sounds right to you, then it is.

I just prefer the A's and A Customs rock my ballZ!

From my toms, im looking for a deep sound with little resonence (sp?). I like that sound, Buddy Rich, and Gene Krupa style.

I'm selling my 5 piece pearl export if you are interested. It needs new heads though, and you might want to upgrade the symbols. But i'll throw in all of the hardware too.

No thanks, I played on Pearls in HS, really don't like anything about them. Thanks for the offer though. 😎:thumbsup:
