"To Catch a Predator"
Men make dates to meet young teens for sex in a hidden-camera investigation.

Original Airdate: November 4, 2006.

Sounds like a new one for those that like seeing sicko's get busted.

I dont think it was new, i watched it and saw that same Software Manager Indian guy at the end get busted.

First time I've seen the show and man I'm really on the fence. Are the "fake" kids starting the dirty talk, leading the discussion to sex, or in some way participating on a level that leads the men to do things they wouldn't have done otherwise. I also didn't like where the interview asks the sheriff something along the lines of "what do you think would have happened if abc and your officers hadn't been here tonight?" The sheriff responds something along the lines of "I think we could have had some kids molested" and I'm not sure that I understand the logic of that. The program also makes it a point to mention that most of the men said they'd never done anything like this before. If this is supposed to be an investigative news show and not entertainment and they already have the guys arrested why not say if any of them had or had not been arrested or charged with similar offenses before.

I know it won't be popular to say anything against something that might put potential child abusers in jail but is there actually a problem with lots of 14 and 15 year old girls meeting 35 year old software engineers online, talking dirty with them, and inviting them over? Can an adult playing the role of a child influence the conversation in a way that might make a person do things they wouldn't normally do? Its a touch topic to talk about but I can certainly see reason to scrutinize it.

Didn't Dateline used to be a legitimate news program with hard hitting investigative reporting? Every time I turn it on now I see this ******.

Actually no, they never were. And they have become the king of stretching a 15 minute segment into a full hour, or recycling footage as they apparently did tonight. I haven't watched a full episode of that show in 10 years.

And they pay that little internet group for these "stings," it's known that they paid $100K for one of them.
