To buy the MS service contract for the 360

I just got the 360 and included was the form to send in to get a 2 year service contract for the 360.
It LOOKS like it is $50 if you use a credit card and $70 if you send in a check. But it may be $70 both ways.

So they fix your xbox or replace it if necessary throughout the 2 years.

Did any of you get this, or a service contract with the retailer where you bought it?

Is it a good investment to make or should I just take my chances with the 90 day warranty?

Supposedly you have to send the form back in within 10 days and it's been about 6.

I say roll the dice, but it's a chance you take. If it burns up you will be kicking yourself. Insurance is only worth it if you use it.

Do you guys not have consumer protection where you live? Where I'm from any goods you buy from a retailer are required to last "a reasonable amount of time" or the retailer is obligated by law to refund or replace. A 360 would certainly be expected to work well for 2 years, so there would be no need to purchase an extended warranty. Any laws like that in USA?

Well costco doesn't accept visa so I bought it with a debit card.

I don't know much about any laws here, I live in VIrginia.

I guess I may just take my chances.

My opinion of extended warranties are, if it costs more than 10% of the original price of the product, then don't do it.

Hrm, that is rather final...

So you are saying if you bought a $20,000 car new, and they offered to extend the warranty to 20 years, 500,000 miles for $2100 you wouldn't do it?

Of course I'd do it. The warranty company would be the loser on that deal. They don't offer 20 year, 500,000 mile warranty on cars. I just happen to know a little bit about car warranties. ;)

I am contemplating the same thing - I wish the standard warranty were longer than 90 days. I'm not inclined to buy it, but I'm torn since it's a first-gen product, and would be costly to replace.

That is the dumbest rebuttal of a statement I've ever heard. It's obsurd to think a carmaker would offer a 500,000 mile warranty.

If you have the first gen then get the warranty. If you have the 3rd or so on gen don't get the warranty. I dunno what kind of quality the 2nd gen is, but I guess it can't bee too bad.
Same the warranty is only 90 days, shows the confidence level on these Xbox 360s are pretty low. Hopefully they last a long time like my Xbox. Still running strong even though it was one of the oldest versions. (But I have heard the Xbox DVD does crap out on some people.)

I bought the circuit city warranty for mine, only because I'm currently on my 4th PS2 and there's no way I'm gonna want to spend another 300-400 anytime on a broken xbox.

Well I just called microsoft and got the 1 year service contract instead of 2 for $30.

I dno't really wanna pay another $60 so 1 year is good enough for me at this point.

Hopefully any major flaws will be found before then.

Don't get the extended warranty.

Check with with the credit card company you purchased your Xbox 360 with. Most offer an extra year tacked on to the original warranty.

didn't buy it with a credit card. got it at costco and they only take American express.

either way I already paid for it so I'm covered until next august if anything.
