To buy or not to buy?

I am debating if I should go ahead and grab an EVGA flavored 8800GTS 640mb or just wait until the next batches of cards are out. The prices are pretty decent right now (350?ish with MIR really isn?t too bad) I think.

Should I wait and see what the ATI/AMD camp will offer or go ahead and get one?

BTW, what IS that time frame anyway?

I would def wait for ATI they are suppose to be launching most/all of their cards next Monday. If nothing else it should lower the prices on the Nvidia cards.

I didn't realize it was that soon!! Awesome.
I definitely need to read up and catch up on stuff again. I'm behind the times!

Yeah I am hoping it drops the 8800GTS 320mb quite a bit. But thats probably wishful thinking.

I get paid on the 15th and will be dropping my cash on my last 2 parts ( Vid and CPU ) so this is a big deal if its true or not. can anyone come up with some solid info on this supposed release date as it is supposed to drop the prices on the 8 series. everytime I hear about it I kind of laugh to myself due to how many times its been delayed.

The process of "waiting" for a price drop is a never ending losing proposition.

Buy what you need/want at the time and be done with it.

Even if more choices, competition, and potential price drops are 1 week away?

I would certainly recommend waiting. Even if nvidia's prices don't drop, you'll have more choices and the possibility of finding a better price/performance ratio in your budget.

I can't speak for everyone, but for me, time = money.

uhm that phrase could go either way. are you saying you'd rather wait since prices will be lower later, or that you'd rather spend more money now?

Your current card will be fine for another few months (if you must jack it all up), and you might be a bit bottle-necked by your current processor, so just wait it out. Sit on that couple hundred, get some interest or bet it on some ponies:).

If it was a month or two away, I could understand what you're saying. However, when you're talking about ONE WEEK, it's definately worth it to wait. Waiting usually isn't the best idea when it comes to computer components but there are certain instances where it is a good idea to wait.

I would definately wait for the HD 2900XT to launch and buy it.

Well I plan on a system overhaul. The vid card is just the first step as I can put it to use right away until the rest of the odds 'n' ends get to me.
