My curent rig is in the sig. I'm 16 and curently unemployed. i just finished a summer job for my neighbor and made $500 for it. Now I'm having a very hard time deciding weather or not to go ahead and buy a 6800GT with my money to replace my 9800 pro (which is not a bad card AT ALL) but it wont give me HL2 and D3 on all high with all the eye candy. I'm a bass player also, i have a good bass but i was lookin at this real nice 5 string bass (G&L Tribute L-2500). I'm going to be building a new PC in 2006 for collage so is it with the 400 now to buy the 6800GT for it to just get replaced in 2006 and i could save the money for the bass?

I have a 9800 Pro right now and I'm pretty darn happy with it. It handles Doom 3 fine for me. I have it at 800x600 res with high settings and everything looks great. No complaints at all. I'm sure it'll handle HL2 fine too.

Was thinking about getting a regular 6800 or GT but since the 9800 Pro can run Doom 3 fine, I'm holding off until later. Besides, Doom 3 is a really dark game so I don't think having all the eye candy turned up would really matter much as I'm really enjoying it as it is.

If you have a 9800 Pro then I would keep it and save the money. My 9700 Pro runs even the new games quite well. Not as good as a 6800 GT, but good enough for me. IMHO.

You have a fast computer as it is. Keep the 9800 pro. I would.

Tough call, but I'd say go for the 6800GT. The 9800Pro is an awesome card, but I think (personal opinion) you could get a nice performance bump with the 6800GT on that system.

I think the 6800GTs will lead performance vs. value for the next 9 months or so. Good luck to you!

Just get the bass, you will have it forever and learn something to boot. The gt will be much cheaper by the time you are in college. :music:

Which are you on more? your computer, or your guitar? Im sure u have an older bass just as u have an older video card. Its dead even IMO. The GT will run everything in every game maxed (or just about. Maybe ull have to have one less notch on aa or af in the most demanding game). So just get whatever u use more.
