I use my mom's car to get to work and other activities. In return, I pay for gas and generally maintain the car. I don't pay insurance cuz as the 4th driver on the car, it was waived. Right now I am the main driver of the car, but the odd time someone else will use it.

Last night, I filled the tank and then came home. Today, my mom and sister used the car and clocked 180 kilometres on it. My mom came home and said, 'Well, I guess I should reimburse you..." but I didn't have a reply as yet.

I make a decent salary but I still have to live within a budget. She is nice enough to let me use her car. But what do you think? What is the right thing?

Eh, my mom wants to use my car, she can go ahead and use it. If the tank starts getting low when she drives it, she'll fill it for me. If not, then I don't care. I know I've driven her car before and haven't reimpursed her.

180km is like what, 120 miles? Thats like 6 gallons, so thats like 10-15 bucks depending on where you are. Don't be cheap with family, man.

EDIT: I think why Alphathree33 is so confused is because he wouldn't ever expect reimbursement in that situatino.

Don't worry about it, what comes around goes around (hopefully that is).

don't take the 'you idiot!' part seriously :) That's a bad habit I got from my sis, she ends everything in "....you idiot!'

I do feel bad for taking the money if she gave it to me, so I think I answered my own question, just to forget it.

Thanks all!
