to be a doctor or a computer engineer

Should i go to medical school, or should I take a job as a computer engineer.

Both are pretty definite possibilities, just wondering what you guys think is better. I already have a job lined up and i already have several med school interviews lined up


Oh yes UPDATE, forgot.

Since I kinda like both what i am trying for is md/phd and maybe i can do research or something with computers and medicine, takes the decision away from me.

The one you like better. If you have trouble deciding, picture yourself in 10 or 20 years. Which one will you prefer then?

i'd be a doctor. if i had to do it all over again, i'd go med school. don't get me wrong, CE is a good job - but i feel better helping others in a hospital - imo.

The doctor I work for says that engineering + med school = An Uber l337 doctor. That's the track I plan to take when I start college in a couple of years.

The one which is "better" for you is the one which more closely matches your ambitions and talents. All else being equal, I have to think the process of becoming a medical doctor is much more physically and mentally demanding.

i used to be a premed and then I decided that I hate school. Almost done with my BSEE now.

as for me...i opted out of the premed stuff because i figured i didn't want to lose my youth to school...hehe

do what I did and switch gears. I hated "pre-med", became a sociology major, graduated and am going to law school, and have a 100k$ job waiting for me when I graduate.

Do you have all your pre-med curriculum done? Chem 1&2, Organic 1&2 All the bio?

Have you volunteered on a ward somewhere to find out if you like it or not?

Are you prepared not to make a dime for another 4 years then make less than 35-40K for the nest 4-6 years after that? Then be 100-150K in debt?

A good specialty makes over 400K once your done with a fellowship. However I believe the average for internal/family medicine is around 150K. I know of several CE's making more at a younger age than 35. It's your choice, there certainly is the most resect for doctors for good reason. They are underpaid and overworked and can't give good health care anymore because of INS cos.

Well I would pursue being a doctor. It will be difficult though. My brother was going to be a family doctor. After 5 years of college year round he grew tired and did not go on to medical school. He still is doing well though :). But we can never have enough of good doctors.

since i work with doctors my question would be...
are you compassionate and do you want to help people in times of sickness...dumb question but i've seen many doctors come out of patients' rooms and they are murmuring stuff to themselves like "they are going to die anyway, nothing i can do to help them..."
Nobody deserves a doctor like that, man. But if you dont care to go in and practice medicne (dealing with patients)but prefer to do research instead, then go for medical school. Is a great respected profession!!!
But if you dont have the personlity to help others, forget about it!!!
And the bonus of being a doctor the freebies from patiens, pharmaceutical companies, no speeding tickets from cops(i'm on my way to an emergency--- gotta get there before patient codes). and finally but no least, a throng of hot nurses worshipping you!!!! Cant go wrong with med school!!!!!

Do whichever makes the most money. Don't worry about whether you like it or not, because when you're 65 you get to retire, and THEN you can have fun, but for now, just worry about getting rich. Unless you're Asian, in which case, you have no choice but doctor.

Are you Asian, South Asian, Arab, or Jewish?? Just curious, I find a lot of people from these backgrounds have parents who push them into one of those two general fields.

i would go to medical school since you will always be in demand. i am an engineer myself and have gone through 3 layoffs. it's no fun. medicine is a good field and has many rewards. all in all do what you feel is right. do what makes you happy. good luck in your decisions:)

Umm..im a computer tech in a hospital. :D
Ive actually saved a guy from a heart attack out in the parking lot one day.

The medical field is rapidly becoming THE most persecuted profession in the US thanks to Democrat policies and their supoport of Trial Laywers.

Doctors are leaving Liousana and Nevada in droves! It's not much better in Missouri and several other states. Canada's best are coming to the states in increasing numbers inspite of our problems.

It would seem that the medical profession is a very hard way to go!
