I'm thinking about buying me a ASUS V7700 Deluxe 32MB GeForce2 GTS, and want your oppinions on that card. (I have read the review here on anandtech)

What you think of it?
Is it a good performance card? (better than the radeon?)
Tv-in, anyone tried that feature?

What's the reason of getting a GTS? It's not the best in either 2D or 3D . V5 has better 2D and the same 3D performance. If you use the HSR drivers it's even faster. Radeon has far superior 2D and the same, not to say better at high resolutions, 3D performance.

HSR is unsupported and doesn't work 100% and even then in only ONE game. That should not be a reason to recommend this card. Otherwise, the Voodoo 5 5500 would make a great alternative seeing as how you can get one for ~$130 now if speed was his only concern.

But he also mentioned TV-in. The Voodoo 5 5500 doesn't have TV-in or TV-out. Maybe you should read the post more throughly....

If you are looking to get the card for the added features then this deluxe will keep you happy. Or you could consider the ATI All-in-wonder Radeon.

I have the 6800 dlx which is essentially the same card except its the original geforce ddr. And, to be quite honest, can hold its own with most of the cards out there. Though the newer cards get a higher fps than on my card, I cant see the difference. The 7700 is even better. The TIVO funtionality of the DLX models is great. I have a laser disc player, playstaion, hifi vcr, 3do (remember that?), N64, Saturn, camcorder, and soon (hopefully) a PS2. All connected to one PC via the asus card. If I could hook up a fridge and a toilet I would never leave my computer corner. :)

Like I said the V5 is just as fast as a GTS but if you are willing to use the HSR it's even faster in ALL OpenGL games. And that's only because it's beta, when it will be official it will be even better. Sorry, but the GTS is not a good buy at this stage, although I did read something about them implimenting HSR too. If that's the case then things change, but right now I wouldn't recommend a GTS to anyone. I was about to order one exactly 2 weeks ago, and I changed it to a V5.

My opinion is that right now you should go for either a Radeon or a V5.

Each card has its disadvantages.

NVidia: Poor 2d quality, FSAA isnt as good as 3dfx's.

3dfx: No T&L, no anistrophic filtering.

ATI: Poor win2k drivers, poor direct 3d support, poor FSAA.

i'd take the asus v7700. i have a v6600 deluxe, and i love the capture and tv out capabilities of this thing. i watch movies and tv on it with my sony vcr. cool thing about the asus card is that they include the video in/capture drivers as a separate unit that's not integrated into their 3d drivers, so if you want, you can use nvidia's geforce drivers with asus' vid-in/vid-out drivers. i've gotten mine to work that way, although it requires some tweaking. and nvidia has the best driver support and updates. one reason to stay away from ati. voodoo if you want fsaa, but they're drivers aren't smp capable. just my 2 cents.

Voodoo Extreme,

I personally love the LeadTek Winfast GEForce2GTS card. It isn't the most full-featured card by ANY means as it is actually lacking in tv-in (it does however have TV-out) but the nice thing about this card is that it is one of the fastest out there. Also it comes stock with a rather large heatsink/fan so the ability to overclock the memory in this video card is actually very good. I've seen this card get up to 408 mhz memory clock, which yields a nice performance increase. Overclocking the core doesn't actually make that much difference.

If you really like the vivo features (video in video out) then the V7700 Deluxe is definitely the card for you. Good software bundle, great all around features, and about average performance/overclockability for a GEForce2 GTS card. I can't say much bad about this one.

Everyone keeps talking about the 2D performance, but let me remind everyone, we don't go running out to buy the newest Matrox card (which happens to be one of the best 2D performers ever) simply to get better 2D performance, we buy new cards in the first place for the 3D performance! Companies wouldn't even release new video cards if it weren't for advancements in 3D performance. You can only get so small on resolution and display so many colors at once.

borealiss0: what TV out?

The VR glasses are a gimick.

I've got a v7700 deluxe.

I like it. Nice big fan on the chip. It has a tonne of great features.

Asus has some cool things like Smart Doctor etc. I cant' really think of a reason not to go with it.

If its features you want this card has it all nearly. Actually you can even get one with a tv tuner built in. In that case it really would have it all.

I've got to explore my card more. So far i've only installed the Nvidia drivers. What tweaking is required to have the TIVO ones going at the same time? Are you using 6.31 or higher nvidia drivers?

Thanx to all that have contributed with info on the V7700 :)

I'll think I'm gonna get it. Seems like a nice x-mas present to myself *lol*

Just one final question:
I've got a TNT2Ultra now, is the 2d-quality in the V7700 equal to the TNT2Ultra?
(as for now I only have borrowed Compaq s700 who don't support high resolutions, so I don't think I will see any difference, or will I?)

um...the composite and svideo connectors on the back of my card. and yes, the VR glasses are a gimmick, they blow chunks.

from the horse's mouth.
asus' spec sheet.

Games: Max res. 1024*768
Desktop: Max res. 1152*864

And don't planning to buy a new monitor on a while.

The Tv-in /tv-out features on the card is one of the BIG reasons I want this card. Using Tv-out daily when I watching DivX movies :)
