I'm selling my pc workstation and moving into a Apple.

I'm thinking of either is better a lowend G5, or a dual 1.25 G4?

I have a PC laptop - X1000 so i want some apple stuff.

Welcome to the club. :)
I think it would depend on what kind of work you're going to be doing. Of course, you can aways get a dual G5. :p

I'm in the process of doing the same thing. I'm going for either the top end 15" powerbook or the 17" powerbook.

I think the dual 1.25 g4 totally souped up would be a better bang for the buck, but meh...

1. Lowend G5 will not be the the equivalent of the fastest PC.
2. Highend G4 is old. No new stuff like s-ATA etc

Honestly, I would reconsider getting the Single G5. There is no real advantage to getting it besides new features that you might not even get to use.

Basically, either get the best, or don't. a Dual G4, especially if you do not need S-ATA and firwire800, will do you fine.

If just for funj, I would recommend a Powerbook, as it wil lgive you the best Apple has to offer, and portability as well.

I wouldnt mind getting an apple if only for the lcd that i saw in crapusa....
I would rather mess around with linux though.....

get an eMac. costs like 800 and it's got a g4. Then you can save money to buy a powerbook later.

Well, some Macs are cheaper, or at least competitively priced.

eMac, dual G5 Power Mac, PowerBooks, iBooks. The other Power Macs are not so cheap comparatively though.

Remember that if you go G5, no Virtual PC for you!

So if you do need/want to run any PC apps, that might help you decide.

Yes, you can. You can also drive your car everywhere in reverse, but it would be stupid.

If you really want, you can go dual boot Linux and OS X too. Yellow Dog sells Macs (authorized dealer) that have both OSes pre-installed, for the same price as Apple's retail.

Personally, I think it's usually just a waste of time though, since OS X is Unix anyway.

I've never liked the eMacs. The G4 in them isn't as powerful as the PowerBooks or the G4 PowerMac.

You can scoop up some good deals on the dual G4s now, so if that's what will fit your need, it should more than fit it.
