Is it worth the extra $$$$ to live by yourself? My roommate is yet again not quite working out; and I just found out my future roommate lied about a bunch of sh!t (he says he can't move out now because his dad is unwilling to pay his rent because it is "money down a hole" and instead his dad is buying a house where I will move in and pour MY money "down a hole" (into his dads pockets..) and just all these lies about it

I'm considering getting a 1 bedroom apt rather than look for a roommate.. Is it worth the extra $$? (not only rent, but utilities as well...
right now I'm paying
$400 rent
$65 half of cable
$60 half of electric
$40 half of water
$30 half of gas
== $595
I guess with a 1br apt I'd cut down on cable, and get basic + internet, and elec and h20 would be cheaper
$500ish rent
$70 cable
$70 electric
$20 or so water
probably no gas, or cheap
== $660

Yes, it is worth living without a roommate. You don't have to put up with the BS and you will be much happier.

Goddamn that cheap! Then again, i live in So Cal....Roomates are good to have around, especially when you're bored (and you get along of course). But it can be a strain on a relationship, keep that in mind. Its a tough call. I've lived alone and with roomated. I guess in the end I would say go it alone....wait till you're married :p

$65 a month to not have to deal with some moron's bullsh*t sounds like a deal to me.

It is *so* worth it to live alone. And at that price? Holy crap! I'd pay double for a 1BR apartment compared to sharing a 2BR. It would be like $500 v. $900.
So instead I pay $700 (incuding utilities) for a studio. You know what? Spacewise my studio is tiny, but it's 3x the size of the BR I would have had sharing an apt and all of the space is mine.

That means I can bring my girl over without having to worry about my roommate being around.
I can have people over....or not.
I can cook whatever I want.
I don't have to feel obligated to share anything with anyone.
No one will disturb me when I'm sleeping, nor will I disturb anyone.

I got rid of roommates my soph. year in college and I'm never going back. I'd pay double just to not have to live with anyone else.

My biggest issue with an apartment is not having a garage. I love my car; and hate to have it out where some idiot can mistake it for someone else's and key the sh!t out of it.

I also like being able to watch movies with any kind of volume..

if that's really the difference in price (660 vs 595), i say go for the one bedroom.

I personally love having roommates. I'd only live with people I know in advance though. Moving into a 3br apartment in Brooklyn soon with 2 college buddies. Pricey though, 750 for the room alone. It should hit 900 after all the utilities and cable/internet.

My total bill for housing was around $200 a month when I was in college. Of course we had 4 people in a 2-bedroom apartment. We hardly turned on the heat, had no cable, and barely cooked. We froze our nads off in the winters and always went to visit our friends in the dorms because they had heat. Damn those were the days! :D

Definitely worth it to live without a roommate. They're fun but you definitely don't want to start off a living situation with lies, who knows what else they're lying about!

I never liked having roommates...so i paid a lot more to have my own little place...
So nice to be able to do exactly what you want & not worry about anything.
So yeah, it's worth it, unless you dislike being alone

I live north of atlanta.

I'm going to go this weekend and checkout some apartments in an area called towne lake.. A newer area that is about 10 min or so farther from atlanta... hopefully I can get a nicer 1br for the same price as a regular 1br around here..
