OK/ What would you guys do, if you were sent a CPU, that was wrapped in Cray Paper???? Would you test it out in your Board?? Just looking for some input here/ thanks.
Edit: I should elaborate I guess, cpu was in a box, but no anti static bag/ nothing but Cray Paper.....

Cray Paper? (sorry, don't know what that is). It is up to you man, you can test it out or demand a refund. If I were you I would test it out, if it works great! Just leave proper feedback on heatware.

Well, not everyone has an anti-static bag around.

The guy was prolly trying to improvise and make it so you could get your cpu.

But good god, at least try it. I'm sure the person wouldnt' of sent it if you had no intention of even trying it.

(I guess you're a true geek)

Well thanks,I think for the replies.... Cray Paper = 1 step up from Toilet Paper, the stuff the kids use for crafts...... Paulson, it sure as heck isn't that I didn't have the intention of trying the cpu, wher'd that come from? My concern is to static......

Cray paper=Tissue paper? I'm just guessing here though.

Try it, and then if it doesn't work, tell them it was DOA. That's just what I would do.

also: be sure to run a thorough stres test (including cache). A static discharge might not fry the CPU, but it could still be unstable.

OK, Maybe I am not getting my Point across here, My Concern is taking the cpu, inserting it in my Motherboard, and blowing the board due to static from the cpu....See what I'm getting at? I know I can send the cpu back to the sender if need be, and as I say, I am just concern'd as to damaging the actual board, it was hard enuff getting my hands on an Abit sh6, I don't want to have to try and find another.

Have no fear, the cpu won't "hold" a static charge, tis gonna work or not.

Big Lar,
The cpu is probably just fine. I'd be more worried about bent pins than static build up. If it works, just pm/email the seller and give him/her some friendly advice on packaging. It could be an honest mistake.

the guy's a moron... he should have packaged the processor in foil... if he didn't have an antistatic bag around.

if you are really worried about it... place the processor pins down on your case, provided the case is grounded... that outta discharge any static... although like others have said.... the processor wont hold static.

of course, you could demand the seller be like Aceman and drive to your place to hand you the CPU. :)

No, the CPU should be fine. Check for bent pins, and plug and pray. I'd be putting my money on it working though. Static shock is usually "overblown" in the sense that people don't know wtf they're talking about when they say it's bad. Yes, it is bad. But shipping something w/o static wrap is 99 times out of 100 going to be OK. It's like saying sex w/o a condom is always going to get you disease. Better safe than sorry though! ;)

*edit* V: please stop giving mis-information like that. Do you understand what an anti-static bag does? A plastic bag is useless, and in fact may actually magnify your chances of static (ever rub piece of plastic on a wool shirt?). Tin foil works on the exact priniciple of an anti-static bag. That principle being that if there is a static discharge the charge will go around the device (on the tin foil) and not into the device. Not a personal flame, but please before you give advice that may cost someone hundreds of dollars have some sort of an idea of what you're talking about *edit*
