i held back for a while, but sorry i just had to say something!

of course i am refering to the people that slept in the streets to by PS2's. the day they were released i strolled into a couple of shops, just looking around, and every shop i visited had at least 30 PS2's just sitting on the shelf, and no sign of battle between people to get them. i reckon those saem units will still be there after christmas.

whenever a new console is released, they always say there are shortages in the US, so people here in Aus start lining up thinking the same will happen. but in reality there is never a need to. you can always get the newest stuff just by walking into a shop at midday, and it will still be there. if people in the US are having trouble getting one before xmas, why dont you just import one from Aus? instead of wasting thousands by buying from auction sites?

from what i saw of the PS2 i dont think it really looks all that great anyway. the graphics are already behind that of current PC's (no suprise there) and all the games are just remakes of titles already available on the PSX. in my opinion its a waste of money. i might consider buying one once the price drops no less than $300, and when more pirated games are released ;)

well, i'll stop rambling now.
/me hides and hopes to avoid the inevitable onslaught of the console babies :D

Actually the PS2 has the potential to put out heaps better graphics than current consumer PCs. However, the PS2 is aparently a ah heck of a platform to develop to, consequently by the time there's a decent range of PS2 games PC (consumer) graphics will be way a head. Until then, the PS2 makes a great (;)) PS1 games console & basic DVD player.

<< why dont you just import one from Aus? >>

Because of....

#1) Shipping & Import tax
#2) DVD region locks
#3) Kangaroo sh|t makes my hair curl.
#4) I enjoy burning 300 gal of gas a month at $1.49 a gal to find one of these things.

"I HIGHLY doubt that a PS2 comes with a 1GHZ cpu DaBanshee"

What's that got to do with the price of eggs, Cable god. Your just showing what an ignoramous you are. Mhz means ah heck all when comparing 2 different platforms. Even comparing 2 diferent X86 platforms shows that - for example on just about anything that doesnt use 'Screaming Sindy' (SSE2) a 1.5ghz P4 on average performs worse than a 1ghz Athlon.

Now if you actually bothered to read up on the differences between the PS2 & a consumer PC, you'd see a "1GHZ cpu" means fuk all when comparing the 2 platforms. You could do worse than reading the Ars Technica article comparing the PS2 with PCs

Once you've gone that far you can then reserch the real reason why the PC could end up the better bet - The PS2 platform is a ah heck of a platform to develop for (as you'l read here), consequently, by the time there's a fair range of decent PS2 games out there, the average top-end consumer PC could be ahead in the 3D graphics dept.

I've seen a few PS2 demo streams on a PS2 & the graphics are bloody amazing, you aint seen nothing yet to compare with it on the PC (even top-end gaming rigs). But that's the catch, until there's a fair range of decent PS2 games, you'l only be playing PS2 demo streams (to make you feel good about your purchase) &
PS1 games & DVDs on it.
