Particularly those schmucks that always think those that dislike DRM, in particular internet connection required drm schemes, are insane...bite me. For the fifth time in two years I have spent significant time away from the house without such a connection even though your first moronic defense of it is that everyone has it. Guess what, you're wrong. And even when it supposedly is there, these oversaturated B band wifi spots hotels are offering often have me tethering my cell phone as then I can at least look forward to a solid edge data stream. So keep being the few still buying ubi crap and leave the rest of us alone.

I love Steam, and don't mind needing a connection to use it seamlessly.

I don't try to game while traveling though -- if I needed to I'd load up on some GoG.com DRM-free goodness.

No because you have to first connect to the internet then you can go off-line.

Whenever my internet goes out Steam goes into offline automatically for me. I know it can be a bit buggy for some people, but you don't need to be online to go to offline mode.

Does this work when you first start your pc though? I have no home internet currently. Every time I start my pc and want to play a game on steam, I have to wifi tether my phone to connect first. Pressing offline mode upon startup, it will just say no internet connection and won't let you go into steam. This would be infuriating if my phone wasn't rooted.

second issue with some games I have done that with, the "offline play" seems to "expire" after a period of time.

Just a little bit sad in that the second thing I do after buying a game is to download a no-cd or drm hack and save it for use when the game "does not want to play".

I solved this problem by growing up and just getting hookers when I'm out of town. Oh wait..you need the internet for that too these days..dammit...n/m.

Now I am going to rant about how much I hate threads made to rant about topics that have been ranted about to death already.

Dear god that's like once every 21 weeks!

What is the world coming to when we can't play video games???

This is what we call a "first world problem".

Not all of us live in moms basement while dad pays for Fios.

I wouldn't mind it too much if only they do their stuff more discreetly. I hate it when I reach home with a new game, impatiently install it and be made to wait further while it downloads 50-300MB+ of patch. Try doing this while you are travelling and at a place with slow internet...

It's also trying when I have to login and either forget my password or have to create a new account. It gets more fun when it involves having to enter those often unreadable picture codes and/or the new password takes forever to come into your inbox.

Choked in the DRM pipeline, firing up another game or just browsing away is so much easier. That no-CD patch for the game is starting to look less troublesome too.

This is how I feel. I don't travel often, but when I do, I play older DRM-free GoG games and such. But that probably has more to do with the fact that "traveling while gaming" = using my laptop, which is inferior to the beast I have running on my desk at home.

Steam Offline mode does work quite well though. You just need to set it up properly before actually using it.
