I've always been curious when a team moves, do you continue rooting for them? Or if a new team replaces them, who do you root for then?

For example if you were a Browns fan before they moved, do you go for the Ravens, or the current Browns?

Or if you were a Houston Oilers fan, are you a Titans fan, or do you root for the Texans?

If you were an Oilers fan, you hate the Titans. I don't know who people went for in the mean time though, the Cowboys maybe? It's definitely Texans now.

No.

When they were talking about moving the Saints to Los Angeles, I thought that all 500,000 people in the NOLA area were going to load up on buses and hunt down the team owner.

I couldn't really understand someone retaining allegiance to a team if that team jumps ship and changes its name...the Ravens are essentially an expansion team, the Browns are still the Browns even though they're technically the true expansion team in this scenario, hell they're the same team name and same city...and they can't even win meaningful games, just like the old brownies! ;)

I think a better example would be the Baltimore Colts moving to Indianapolis and then Baltimore eventually replacing them with the Ravens, or the Raiders jumping from Oakland to LA and back again...

I am a HUGE 49ers fan from S.F., but I now live in L.A.: If the 49ers moved to L.A., I would probably still be a fan, but if they moved out of California, it would be more difficult.

The fans adore the marketing and legacy of the team, not the actual team members. (with exceptions to the greats)

As soon as the team leaves town, they lose all previous support.

Then why is it that when people leave town, they do not lose interest in their "home" team. I am a perfect example of that (49ers fan who moved out of S.F. 20+ years ago). See Also: Any former New Yorker and the Yankees/Mets/Knicks/Jets/Giants/Islanders/Rangers.

we dont support the pirates now... why would we support them if they move?

if the pens left pittsburgh, someone would get an assbeating.

if the steelers left pittsburgh, their new town would be nuked within hours.

If the Steelers left Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh might as well be nuked because there would be nothing there.
