It's on stock internals with a 100-shot. The person did some tuning to achieve that high of a torque.

You guys have to remember that the VQ engine in the '95+ Maximas were originally designed to be used in the German Touring Car Chamopionships. However Nissan's plans were cancelled so they detuned the engine and stuck it in the Max. Also, the same VQ engine was used in some cars in the Le Mans, and I think the Lola car came first place in its class. It was powered by the Nissan VQ also.

The VQ is extremely torquey! It produces 90% of its max torque all the way from 1500RPMs to 5500RPM. The VQ in the '00+ Maxes are tuned differently <with the revised intake/exhaust> to pull all the way to redline, even more so.

There are quite a few stock 5-spd Maxs doing the 1/4mi in 14.7s and there's one 5-spd 5th Gen max with only an intake and exhaust (y-pipe) doing the 1/4mi in 14.48s.

<< Wow I wouldnt have expected it to be beefy enough to take a 100 shot...cool :) >>

There's a reason that the engine has been in the top ten list since its inception! Its the smoothest V6 in the world, with a broad powerband and a V8-like flat torque line.

It's just to bad that the Maximas have the crappiest transmission!! Although the car in question was a 5-spd, the auto trannys <the one in my Max> is crappy. We need to transplant the auto from the Camry into Maxs.

Then why don't you?? You have to change the headers/cams/tranny to do it. All this guy did was add NOS and put in upgraded fuel pump/injectors. No cams, headers, etc..

Headers were tested on Maximas and they only netted a 1hp gain across the powerband so they aren't worth it. The stock headers are good enough.

Torque Steer??

I know that the maxs' drivetrain is very refined but that is a farkload of torque.

actually i might not have to considering im not sure if this is correct but i think it has the same parts as the WRX which is built for turbo
and thus could handle more umpf

I can go out and with a few twists of my wrist make 10 more psi of boost, then another twist to increase my fuel pressure and I can too, thats not the point. For less than $1k most likely this guy is making 385fl/lbs on a stock engine. I find that a little impressive actually. Now from what it sounds like he might be changing his transmission soon ;) but it still shows alot of potential to me!

Soybomb you'll be happy to know that there are a few Max's that run the 1/4mi in the 12s on an AUTO tranny!!!! Ofcourse this guy did some magic to it by doing some sort of valve body upgrade that firms the shifts. Also he only had NOS at the time. Right now he's rebuilding his engine to run 12s in NA form. No NOS, S/C, or Turbo. I'm not sure if he'll reach his goal but if anyone is gonna attempt it, it might as well be him.

The one that has 385lb/ft hasn't taken it to the track yet so I'm not sure how it will perform. but seeing as how he kept up with Andi's Supra, well that's just amazing. There are videos of that race also. If anyone would like to see it, I'll post the link here.

could someone explain in basic terms what the difference in the maxima's transmision and the accord's is? I'm talking automatic here.

I'll take a stab on the wear on cam, headers, and tranny. First, I'll guess the manual tranny is more stout and able to take such a beating assuming the clutch can. I'd also bet teh auto handles it fine, at least in the short term, although I'll bet you'll start to see more and more torque convertor slip over time. I don't see why the cam or headers would flinch. I'd guess its a cam with roller followers and really they just don't wear much assuming the metal is blended right. I've seen cams from 400hp 4 cylinder turbo cars and they look like any other cam from the factory would with that amount of mileage on the car. The headers should be just fine I'd think....I don't know why they wouldn't
