I was digging through my old files, looking for a science paper, and found this poem that I wrote in 2001. Even after all these years, it seemed interesting to me, so I felt like sharing.
To All Fanatics
You! Curled beneath religious fervor,
Who hide behind the word of god,
Who don't care for ones you murder,
Who don't scoff at sight of blood.
Within your dark, self-righteous rhetoric,
You slither stealthily at night,
You move in secret, strike, and scatter,
You give your prey no chance to fight.
Your hatred warms the cold stagnation,
Where hope and tolerance can't reach,
You cling to our civilization,
But offer nothing you can teach.
You've shed your most sacred values,
To make up new ones as you please,
You'd burn your own holy temples,
To send all others to their knees.
You raise your heads in this dark hour,
And sharpen your bloody knives,
Your goals are only pride and power,
The words you preach are merely lies.
But we have heard your hissing speeches,
And we recall the flames you've set,
Your cries for mercy will not reach us,
Your time will come, remember that.
