D-DAY : 6 june 1944
Operation OverLord to free occupied european countries.
22 presidents (including Mr Bush) are in Normandie (France) to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the D-Day.

Memorable is perhaps more appropriate but english isn't my first language.

wow man this is one of the best posts ive ever seen! my grandfather served in WWII and im sure he would appreciate your kind words. today is a day that the whole world should be thankful for, because without it who knows where we would all be today. happy anniversary of d-day to all of those veterans who were there and more importantly here's thanks to all those families who lost someone on this infamous day 60 years ago

Well, even I as a German am greatfull about what the Allies did some 60 years ago! Though it's a kinda strange feeling to say that they did a good job with defeating Germany, my mind tells me that it was the only solution there was!

EDIT: I guess it's also a big thing this time that for the first time the German chancelor is invited to the celebrations!

Great post man, its great to see all these president's paying their respect for the soldiers that went through one of the hardest fights ever.

Just look back and imagine if the US, England and Canada wouldn't have stuck up for human rights.

You were the one person I was worried about when I read the OP, BMC. Glad to here that everyone is together on this. I didn't know about your chancelor but I think that's great that he was able to be there.

To all the Veterans and those who didn't make it back, I and a whole lot of other people say Thank You!

My father fought in WWII, but in the Pacific and he made it back.

Let us not forget the sacrifices made by those many men who fought and those who died giving all for Freedom, be they British, French, Canadians, Americans,or Russians.

BMC, there was a difference between the German people and the Nazi Regime. I spent 2 years in your Great country and was treated with nothing but respect, and that was in the early 80's. I'm glad that the German Chancellor was invited to take part in the ceremonies.

True and don't forget many German citizens risked their lifes daily in the German underground trying to save the lives of many .

A man at my church has many stories to tell about D-Day. I haven't talked to him a lot but what he has told me is that he was in the third wave at the invasion of Normandy and the memories he has of it are very vivid even to this day when he's well into his 90's. Him and all others involved (whether in the fighting or as recipients of the freedom that resulted) should be held in the highest reguard and respect.

There is no way to ever repay even 1 vetran of this earth....we have all lost loved ones, seen or heard of the great sacrifaces made by these great men and women, to each and every one ...Thank You...in war there is no discrimination, everyone suffers.

The best way to repay them is to keep George Santayana's quote in mind:
Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

If we can learn from the past and become better people and a better society, then they will not have died in vain. To not learn, to continue cycling though genocide after genocide, and to continue, as a society, discriminating and hating, only demonstrates that we are failing to learn. While the Bonos and Princess Dis of the world get lots of exposure for their efforts, it really all starts with you and me...

It's okay Polo, your English is better than my French! 😉

Thank you to all the veterans of the free world!
