To all bicyclers: you don't own the freakin road

I was late to work because some asswipe on a bicycle was riding in the middle of the road at about 15mph in a 30. I couldn't pass and there ended up being ~8 cars behind me. The guy could've used the shoulder (3ft wide) and/or the sidewalk 😕

Pie anyone?

**EDIT**
And BTW, the reason you were late to work is because you woke up later than you should have. Not because of the 30 seconds lost behind a biker. LOL.

I agree the guy should have pulled over and let people get by. but odds are he could nto use the sidewalk considering its against the law in most places.

i saw some cyclists using the left turn lane. thought it was weird. they must not've realized that they were on two wheels, not four...

People do that here too. Theres plenty of shoulder to ride on or at least the right side of the road but they cant do that can they.

oh boy here we go.

the cyclist will come in here saying how wrong you were and that you should go to jail for being a asshole to cyclist.

People with your abysmal understanding of traffic laws shouldn't be able to get driver's licenses.

Are you serious? Bicyclists have to obey the laws just like cars. They also have the right to ride anywhere on the road (following the law) as long as there is no speed minimum.

He could have used the shoulder, but it's illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk in most places.

I thought bikes have to keep as far right as possible?

Anyone know if there is a rule that bikes must maintain single file when riding on a street? I see many times, fat guys in spandex riding 2 or 3 wide.

LOL... I'm surprised they actually did use a turn lane. Most cyclists I see act like they have every right to the road (which they do), but then totally ignore most traffic stops. It's annoying.

"You don't own the road"
<looks at taxes taken out of my paycheck>

Yeah, I do.

🙂

I'm either having deja vu, or someone posted almost the exact same complaint.. they were reprimanded by their boss because they were late... they tried to blame a cyclist.

That's not really true. In California they have to ride as far to the right as is practiceable, unless they're passing someone, or making a left turn, or moving at the speed of traffic, or the lane is too narrow for both a bike and a car at the same time.

People in here probably think I'm a militant cycling nazi because I do things like use the left turn lane and ride in the street. I don't think I've ever delayed a motorist by more than 20 seconds in my life while on my bike.

I was about 2 minutes late to work, I followed the biker for about 3 minutes. it is possible that following him cause me to miss a green light or two. Maybe he didn't exactly cause me to be late, but it is possible that I couldn't got there on time if he didn't slow me down. Also, I didn't wake up late this morning, I lost my keys :frown:

Did he notice you?

Yes, I saw him turn his head around.

I think it's scary to ride a bike in the street. You never know when some fvcking idiot in a car is going to hit you.

I agree, most of the drivers out there are much worse than the bikers.

Roger. I love the cyclists who ride on the backroads around here. They're taking their lives into their own hands.

He delayed you by *three minutes*. Not even three minutes. In three minutes at 30mph, you would have gone 1.5 miles. Three minutes at 15 means you went 3/4 of a mile. So, you were behind by 3/4 of a mile at 30mph. That's a whole minute and a half delay. That's the length of a long stoplight. If you're cutting it that close on your way into work, then you should leave earlier.

And I'm sorry the bicyclist cost you a whole minute and a half of your life. BTW, you wasted just as much of your life by posting this thread.

Take it easy man. Just leave to go to work earlier.

I use to commute so I am very nice to cyclists on the road! No risky overtaking or getting bent out of shape behind a bike. I'll just keep my distance and over take when it is safe.

If he pulled over 2ft or so would it have been 'safe' to over take him anyway? Your American roads are wide though.

I thought bicyclist have to be as far as to the right as is safe and that they must be single file; all vehicles must be single file and a bicycle in this context is a vehicle. I am sure each state is different, but in general I would bet most of the rules are the same.

For the most part the bicyclist here are pretty good. Every so often I'll find that asshat who rides right in the middle of the road and holding up tons of traffic, but luckily not too often.
