To ACPI or not to ACPI

...that is the question.

I'm just about to install Win2k on this machine next to me.. I know for a fact that it will install just fine with ACPI and I also know for a fact when it does, it will share IRQ 9 with 6 devices. The computer performs without a hitch but I do not know what will come of it if I install Win2k without ACPI, which I am perfectly able to do...

Would the effects of ACPI running 'fine' outweigh running without it?

To qualify "running fine" you may want to do some benchmarks. Then you will have an idea if you have any problems or not. Mine was fine with ACPI but I reinstalled without ACPI to see if there was any difference. There was...harddrive took a 20% jump in performance without ACPI. Each system is different some may show no difference while others show a major difference.

If I were you, since apparently you are thinking about it anyway...I would run benchmarks, reinstall without ACPI and run benchmarks again.

You may notice a slight temperature increase without ACPI but not enough (at least on my system) to warrant any special consideration.

Halz I recommend you disabling ACPI. Sharing an IRQ with that many devices is just not healthy in my opinion. PM me if you need instructions on how to disable ACPI on either Win9x or Win2k 🙂
