To ABIT or not to ABIT?

Hi-

I just received my Abit KT7-RAID today (ordered it right before the KT133A boards started coming out, but that's another story). I'm still waiting for my 1.2 Thunderbird and my heatsink/fan and what not, so the ABIT is just sitting there looking pretty in the box.

Here's my question. Should I bother waiting and then putting it all together? I read tons and tons of reviews that gave the board incredible praise... not one single bad review ANYWHERE. People in forums seemed to like them. That's why I ordered one. Then, all of a sudden, I'm casually browsing the forums, not looking for anything in particular, and I notice someone saying he doesn't recommend the ABIT. Suddenly, several people are agreeing and saying there are problems with Abit -- QC problems, bad boards getting out, stability problems, etc... yet EVERY SINGLE REVIEW out there worships it as one of the best, most stable boards you can get. So I do a search on here for Abit and find 4 pages worth of Abit-related threads -- MANY of these are people having problems (often solved, I read, but not always... many people are exchanging them for other boards, are pissed at Abit, are frustrated, etc). I don't know whether the problems are periphreal-related, mobo-related, driver or OS-related, human error... whether it's the RAID controller (which I now realize I probably may not even use afterall! Way to go, self), or the 133A chip, or what.

So where is this coming from? Why NO bad reviews ANYWHERE? Will this board be worth the headache? Or should I sell it now (it's still brand new and unused) and grab an ASUS or something? So many people seem to love the board, yet so many have popped up that are having problems. Was $160 for my KT7-RAID a bad choice?

Sorry so long...

Well my experience with Abit was pretty bad one. :| But then there's so many others who had great experiences with those Abit boards. I suggest you to wait for the complete set and hook up things to find out how you like the board. All i know is that Abit seems to have a High RMA ratio compared to ASUS. Thats just my opinion :) I could be wrong. wish you the best of luck on your Abit Board.

The problem with reviews is that they don't take a look at over return rates etc... Abit has a much higher RMA rate then say MSI or Asus. If they work they are great, but their QC is poor and there alot of DOA boards or boards with bad components.

I bought an ABIT BH6 BX motherboard a few years ago and it was defective right out of the box (it wouldn't recognize the hard drive). My new ABIT KT7 has been working flawlessly since September of last year. This motherboard takes some tweaking and configuration to get it to work properly, and if you need any help or have problems with it, be sure to check out this website:
