Hi, I helped a friend set up a new computer running Win 2K. Things seem to be running ok, except that when browsing the web, jpgs will not be viewed. Gif's and banners come in okay, but jpgs don't at all.

More than that, it will display a box the correct size, but it will have static type pixels, mostly black, white and gray, but some color ones. Jpg's on his system cannot be viewed by ACDSee, IE, but only with the system app, called Imaging.

Specs:
AMD 1200 266 FSB
Gigabyte GA-7ZX
MSI Nvidia TNT2

I did install the via 4 in 1 drivers, version 4.32, plus the AMD AGP miniport driver that was recommended instead of the 4-in-1 version.

Plus most the recent Nvidia drivers are on there. I don't know whether my friend did the non-whql or the whql version. I don't know what version of the BIOS Champaign Computers installed. He bought it 2 weeks, ago, so you would hope they used the most recent version, but I'm not sure.

We tried complete reinstallations, we tried tweaking resolution and refresh rates, none of that helped. If anyone could recommend a fix, that'd be pretty cool :)

Since I don't have the machine here at my house, I wasn't able to try a different video card yet. I'm going to do that tomorrow. Also, I'd seen some boards had a problem with having 4x AGP enabled in the BIOS, should I try and disable that?

Thanks.

my friend called me after I emailed him the link. He said that he ran the diagnostics, and it fit the profile. I think that's what it is. I appreciate you giving me the link, because that was the first piece of info that had something about the problem. He's going to call the place that put it together for him and ask about getting a different chip.

Thanks.
