TNT2 , SIS 315 or what video card for K7S5A

I am putting together a K7S5A 1.0 Duron system (ie very low budget here) and am looking for video card suggestions and sources in the $20-40 price range . - thanks

I've got a Diamond Viper V770 Ultra on my K7S5A with a 900Athlon(modded to run @ 7x133). This TNT2ultra gets about 3650 in 3dmk2k, and still plays most games(UT, Q3, SS2) smoothly at 1024x768 16bit. Great budget card.

bambam, what are you building the system for? If it's not at all about 3D gaming, consider using a board with integrated graphics. Else SiS 315 is a good choice, much more modern (and lots faster) than ye olde TNT2, let alone TNT2-M64. There are some nice cards out there, with dual head capability, stereo glasses support, DVI connector ...

regards, Peter

The Sis 315 that Newegg sells is incredibly cheap (I think $35), with 64MB ram. I researched this card and found some very interesting facts about it on the internet.

- The ram is high speed Nanya ram, that overclocks well.
- In context, the 315 has better antialiasing routines than the Geforce4 !!!
- You get TV out (whether you use it or not)

The best review I have found for it is at http://www.xbitlabs.com/video/sis315/

I believe this is the cheapest card you can get with 64MB ram!

I suggest you go with a SiS315-based card. They're very cheap and good-performing. BTW, they have a 375MHz RAMDAC, if I remember correctly, and are supposed to have a better 2D quality than the GF2MX cards, that's why it's a better solution, IMO. Higher-speed RAMDAC, more RAM for less money make a SiS 315-based card an excellent choice. Also, I'm sure it will be 100% compatible with the SiS 735's AGP (they're made by the same company, after all), so there should be no AGP issues.

I have an ECS k7s5a and a Radeon LE 32MB DDR card. This card runs very well on this system, and is dirt cheap. Just make sure you enable hyper-z through registry (you can find lots of articles on the internet on how to do this).

Also you can go with the original RADEON with 32 MB of DDR mem (not LE), from Newegg.com for $45.00 shipped. It is as fast as GTS-V + good 2d quality and DVD support, highly recomend it.

here are some good benchmarks.

Edit: You are lucky, because the DDR memory prices are falling again, that should help you out even more 🙂
