hi, i have been having this problem for a long time now but have just decided to try and fix it.
basically games are too dark with my tnt2 in win2k (have not tried in win98), particularly quake 3. when i first got the video card, i tried several driver verisons but all had the same problem. has anyone noticed it?
i used powerstrip's gamma controls for a while as a workaround but it's too much hassle.
if you have any solutions, pls tell me :) thanks in advance!

I find that alot of Nvidia cards give dark displays. You have to crank up the gamma corrections in your games and the brightness on your monitor and it should help.

the monitor brightness/contrast is cranked up to the max.
but quake is kinda peculiar.. the gamma control only makes difference up to 1/3rd or close to it. what i mean is that if i slide it more to the right it makes no difference. the gamma stays the same. so does anyone have a solution or am i stuck with the pitch dark game? :)

my V3 was a lot brighter than my GF256 is. a friend's GFDDR was fine. and now that i got a GF3 quake is just fuxored. other games run fine. even alice, which is Q3 based.

What kind of monitor do you have? I used to have alot of problems with my old monitor cause it was really dark by itself and then my TNT2 Ultra made things even darker, even when brightness was maxed out. My new monitor is sweet so I don't worry about much now, brightness isn't even close to max so I can make it brighter if I wanted but I still find that Nvidia cards are darker and less rich than other cards such as ATI or the old 3dfx cards.

It might be your monitor if it's getting older and if it is you can probably get a guy who works with small electronics to adjust the brightness for you.

Find and DL powerstrip...and use the internal gamma corrections to fix it. That's what I had to do with my old card and monitor b/c cs was like pitch black.

i don't think it's the monitor since with my previous card (savage3d) it looked alright. also i'm not sure it's a opengl problem now that you mentionned alice i recall playing it and it didn't seem dark. as for powerstrip - i am aware of this possibility but don't like it. i was hoping that it is a driver issue or quake version issue. thing is that if the quake slider worked all the way up i could get it to look bright, but as i said in my third post it makes difference just up to 1/3rd of the slider. any of you with a nvidia card having the same issue? oh, and thanks for the replys so far :)
