TNT and XP...

I'm running XP Professional, with an older Diamond Viper V550 with a TNT chipset.
No real need to upgrade the card since I'm not a gamer, and it has always seemed sufficient.
But under XP, I have no hardware Direct3d.
I've checked to make sure I have directx, and got the latest drivers from nvidia.
Ended up wracking my brain, and decided to call microsnot.
They say the TNT chipset is not supported by XP, so thats why it's not working.
but they say the TNT2 is. and then GeForce2 and 3.
I noticed this when I got Plus! for XP, and the couple of games that came with it, and the screensavers eithr complain that I have to use software Direct3d rendering or that I have no Direct3d hardwar.
Is it time to finally upgrade, is there a tweak, any thoughts....
Thanks...

well, the tnt and the tnt2 are basically the same chip, so itmakes not sense that microsoft doesn't support it. i actually ran a tnt1 in winxp for about a day, and i was able to run 3dmark2001 on it with no problem. i would suggest uninstalling the card and reinstalling.

uninstalled the card in WIN XP, even went ahead and removed it, and made sure all contacts were clean.
Still... All Plus! XP stuff that needs direct3d says: Cannot find any compatible Driect3d devices.
Found an old copy of wintune I had laying around, that does hardware direct3d tests.
Worked fine... so I'm ruleing this as Microsoft Blows.
Anyway... theres a geforce2 MX200 on sale at the local microcenter, Will buy it for myself for x-mas, see if that works.
if not. uninstall Plus! for XP.
(now that I think about it, The one game I do play, madden 2001 works fine also usind hardware accelaration)
