I have Windows 98 with a Rage Pro Turbo 8mb (PCI). Everything working fine...Abit KT7 motherboard with AMD 600 overclocked......

Saw son's old Creative Labs TNT AGP 16mb card lying around, and decided to try that. Well Windows 98 locks up when booting in normal mode with the new card....it will boot into Safe mode, but not in Normal mode...

Any suggestions?

AMD 600 overclocked

clock it down.

uninstall otehr display drivers.

make sure it is not sharing irq's with anything else(usually 11)

<< uninstall otehr display drivers. >>

What other ones...the ones for the TNT?

The card doesn't even boot into windows to install...but I can try clocking down the PC and see what happens....

Thanks

Tried lowering CPU speed to 600....still no go with the TNT card....
Windows won't complete the boot-up.....

Some of the time I've tried disabling the AVG virus protection program.

Since your old card was PCI, are you sure your agp port is working at all? I'd put the old card back in, get into windows normally, update your bios for your motherboard (I have a kt7 too--mine is raid, but same diff--, the newest bios is nice if you don't have it) as well as your 4in1 drivers (www.viatech.com). Then, install the default vga windows driver (the generic one), and then switch cards. Make sure you have the latest TNT drivers handy. Should work. Goodluck.

The card works fine....there is a picture....windows locks up while booting up......
It looked like it was locking up when loading vpmx2d.vxd

It will boot into Safe mode.....

Go into bios make sure AGP is first choice for primary display adaptor not PCI,then disable all video shadowing and disable system bios cacheable, next make sure you leave PCI slot 1 empty if possible, then try and boot and see what happens.

Make sure the old ATI drivers are removed by following the above previous posts on install guide of drivers. Also set AGP speed at 2x or 1x speed in Bios.

I conur with Richleader on this. Your BIOS really needs to be updated and then give it another shot.

Well....it was stupidly simple...

just had to set the old card to Standard VGA..
Turn off the system
put the new card in
boot up
loads the TNT drivers for the new card.

and it works !

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.....
