TN-LCDs a Compromise?

I've been looking a LCDs for home use (heavy gaming plus work) and it seems like everyone is raving over these new low response TN panels. Plus I think these are only available at 15-19" sizes? I'm looking for 20" plus which are probably only S-IPS, MVA/PVA types right? Don't the TN types lose out in other areas such as color, view angle, etc.?

Yes (currently).

Yes. Color reproduction has gotten substantially better (see recent THG reviews, where they do color calibration and analysis), but view angle is still pretty poor on the newer 8ms/12ms screens. This may improve somewhat, but is likely to always be a problem with TN-Film type screens.

For gaming use, I personally would think the low response time of a 19"/8ms panel would outweigh the larger size of a 21"/16ms panel -- but if you're happy with something like a 2001FP for gaming (and many folks are), then you're all set.

That samsung 82 inch i saw on the other thread was a PVA with 8ms. MAX response time. If that means what I think it does (never gets higher than 8ms.), that's currently the best response time ever. Maybe someone can here can confirm this. If I were you I'd wait and see what samsung comes out with. If you want something now for gaming, definitely get a 8ms or 12ms (min) or less.

Before buying my LCD, I read a review that included response time testings. It seems that rated response times are measured with black and white color setting or some similar simlification. In real life 8ms LCD monitors have response time well above 20ms. Not that I can notice the diference but manufecturers always state specs that make their products look better then they are.
