TMPIN2 is 262 degrees fahrenheit - what is this and is it okay?

Can somebody who has more knowledge about CPU temperatures tell me if I need to be concerned about any of these numbers? The 262 fahrenheit seems way too hot whatever it is but I don't know for sure. It looks like I have 2 dead fans also.

The CPU is an oldie but goodie AMD Phenom x3 8450.

Hardware monitor ITE IT87
Voltage 0 1.26 Volts [0x4F] (CPU VCORE)
Voltage 1 1.14 Volts [0x47] (VIN1)
Voltage 2 2.96 Volts [0xB9] (+3.3V)
Voltage 3 5.08 Volts [0xBD] (+5V)
Voltage 4 10.30 Volts [0xA1] (+12V)
Voltage 5 -13.25 Volts [0xCF] (-12V)
Voltage 7 4.27 Volts [0x9F] (+5V VCCH)
Voltage 8 3.33 Volts [0xD0] (VBAT)
Temperature 0 61°C (141°F) [0x3D] (TMPIN0)
Temperature 1 54°C (129°F) [0x36] (TMPIN1)
Temperature 2 128°C (262°F) [0x80] (TMPIN2)
Fan 0 4592 RPM [0x93] (FANIN0)
Fan PWM 0 0 pc [0x0] (FANPWM0)
Fan PWM 1 0 pc [0x0] (FANPWM1)
Fan PWM 2 49 pc [0x3F] (FANPWM2)

"Temperature 2 128°C (262°F) [0x80] (TMPIN2)"

Is that some place on your motherboard?
Either your sensor is off, or something is hot enough to fry a egg on :p

My TMPIN2 reads the same on my z87 intel motherboard

just ignore

Don't pay any attention to that man behind the curtains. :)

Why don't I feel comfortable with your advice?

Just for comparison the TMPIN2 temperature on my IvyBridge i3-3225 CPU is running at 31C/87F. Something just doesn't seem right on my old Phenom triple-core.

You dont need to be concerned. When sensors cant be read or they are not there. It usually gives 128C as a response in some programs.

Ah, okay. That makes me feel somewhat better. I am using the CPUID HW Monitor software version 1.24.0. Still, my computer has shutdown unexpectedly a couple of times recently and I thought it might be heat related. And it still appears I may have 2 dead fans so I'll have to crack open the case and see about getting those replaced.

Perhaps the CPU is reaching too high temperature due to that. Easy way to see if its that is to run Prime95 or something similar. And then fix the heat issue.
