TMobile to sell data only phone plans

I wonder how much it costs to provide mobile data. The prices are higher than buying a nice ssd for your desktop. $4/GB is pretty spendy. Otherwise, if I didn't have a work phone, a data only package would be of interest to me.

thats horrible pricing.
I've got a much better deal with my prepaid account. 100 minutes and unlimited data for 30 dollars.
Uh, no, you have 5gb data with that. I assume you'll still get unlimited throttled on these after the listed point as with your 5gb plan.

The "Walmart Plan" throttles your speed to 60 Kbps aka just barely over a 56k modem after 5 GBs. They also send you text messages when you are approaching the 5 GBs and when you go over the 5 GBs.

2GB = $20
6GB = $35
10GB = $50
14GB = $65
18GB = $80
22GB = $95

It's about time, not amazing prices, but it has to start somewhere...

Not great pricing. Especially since it's $30 for the 5GB prepaid plan and you get 100 voice minutes.

No taxes on the prepaid plan either and you can use refill cards that are sometimes discounted by 5% or 10% so net price can be as low as $25.50/month (10% sale + 5% Target RedCard discount).

SCREW YOU GUYS!!!

I've gone over 5 gigs and the speed drop was hardly noticeable. Was still able to stream Netflix.
In fact thats how I beat the cap.

This is not Off Topic.

netflix is part of bingeon (compression AND unthrottled even after you hit the cap)

so yeah, it's still 5GB for those who don't use bingeon video/music freedom

(and you'll likely get the same bingeon benefits on this new data-only plan... so it's fair to compare 5GB/6GB on data-only vs 5GB on your $30 plan)

If you're in an area with decent T-Mobile service, I don't know why you'd go with someone else. Can anyone beat them on plan features right now?

depends on what level of service you want

if you are a talker (>100 minutes/month), but not a huge data user (rely on wifi/don't use much mobile data), then google fi's plan works better (though it's still mainly on T-mobile's network)

($20/month, plus $10/GB)

Tmobile needs minimum $25/month (unlimited minutes, zero data)

Well, I'm basically the opposite. Big talkers/low data are probably a small minority now. Don't they have any dumb phone plans like that?

Perhaps you should stick with firearms as a hobby, and seriously, "screw you guys?" Are you 11 or on your 30's?

Goading isn't any more acceptable than his behavior.

Step in the right direction.

Wish Verizon would let me drop voice plans and just go unlimited data only. With GV/Hangouts, hardly a need for voice/text bs.

Don't think you could rely on data only with T-Mo currently though.

*raises hand. 😀 though I'm not really a big talker, either.

I think Republic has the cheapest options right now. All depends on your data use/how efficient you are with it. The caveat is that (currently) you have to use their phone. I don't know why this is, because Project Fi does it with an app/firmware install. however that works.

I went with Fi because it makes more sense to me right now. I loved Cricket, but ATandT doesn't work at my place of work. Fi saves me about $8 per month compared to my lowest-end Cricket plan (the 2.5gb one).

I use ~20mb of cell data per month, though.

FYI can you not use google voice, it uses data but you can still talk/text with data only.

Also FYI you can stream netflix from your phone to your smart TV or to your amazon fire stick. You can watch all of it on a big screen and not have it hit against your data.

You can if you want to entrust your voice/text coverage solely on T-Mo's 3G/4G data coverage. I'd definitely be willing on Verizon.

Don't they limit unlimited streaming to 480p or something? Or has this been hacked? 480p on your 65" 4K TV would be a crime 😀.

Have used GV for many years, between GV and TMobile, it'd be pretty spotty...
