my gf needs a new phone and I found a used tmobile gray samsung s3 and nexus 4 both 16 gb for $100-110. The samsung s3 has wifi calling which would be great since we live an area with not so good reception. it also has lte.

Which is the better phone for a poor reception area? Thanks

Also I've heard some variants of the s3 have a quad core?

Edit: Are all the titanium gray tmobile s3 lte capable? The one only says s3 on the back and does not say LTE any where on the phone.

There were two different models for the S3 on T-mobile.

LTE and non-LTE.

if you're in a poor reception area~ it makes sense to get the T-mobile branded phone for wifi calling.

I would go with the Galaxy. If I remember right the signal wasn't as good on my N4 as it was other phones on the same carrier. But it was still perfectly usable and I still had fast connections. Regardless I think I would still get the S3. Better battery life (was pretty atrocious on the N4 aside from a few good days), MUCH better camera, removable battery (not really my thing but other people seem to care) and a few handy samsung features. Touchwiz is a bummer and UI performance won't be as good because of it.

S3:
Battery life
Camera
Features
Expandability

N4:
Performance
Updates (has lollipop whereas the S3 stops a Kitkat)
Design

NEVER thought I'd be recommending a Samsung device over a nexus but alas here we are. Not a fan of galaxy phones at all but given the two choices I think the galaxy would be better.

If the Galaxy SIII touchwiz launcher isn't to your liking then you could also try an alternative launcher like Apex Launcher or Nova Launcher

^10 alternative launchers.

If you decide on the Galaxy SIII you most likely will be able to improve on the touchwiz UI by choosing a better launcher. You can't uninstall the default touchwiz ui but the 3rd party launchers can be set to start up whenever the phone reboots so that you never see touchwiz again.

I have tried both Nova Launcher and Apex Launcher and I can say that both offer a more pleasant experience than touchwiz on my S4.
