I want to switch to tmobile pay as you go $29.95/mo for 500 min and unlimited mobile to mobile

do I have to pay an activation fee or 22% tax?

this is for my work phone which I do not use often, so I am debating switching over from virgin, which is just $29.95 mo/ + sales tax. No surcharges and no activation. Works pretty well for limited (400 min/mo) usage.

I'm not sure what plan you're talking about. AFAIK the pay-as-you-go plan is their prepaid plan where you buy refill cards and pay up front for any minutes you want to use. That's what I use. There were no activation fees or taxes. I just had to buy a SIM card for my unlocked phone and a refill card. I paid $88 for a $100 refill card (1,000 minutes) at a 3rd party reseller, so it works out to 8.8 cents per minute, and I typically use about 90 minutes (or $8 worth) per month.

does anyone know if Tmobile will let me keep my current phone number with the prepaid plan? this is very important to me as i don't live in the same area anymore and my area code is different but want to keep my old number.

thanks!

You're not talking about prepaid, you are talking about a monthly contract. Yes, there is tax on that plan, same as any other rate plan. Yes, you can keep your same phone number without a problem.

That's flexpay, which is a monthly service that doesn't have a contract. So yes, there is still an activation fee and you do have to pay taxes and fees on it.

Actually, Flexpay accounts do not have activation fees.
