Sweet! Now I can get rid of VZW for my company! Was holding out because of 3 pad users!

Don't forget that every model of the new iPads with cellular are the same. You don't have to buy the TMobile version. Should be able to just stick a TMo SIM in whatever iPad LTE you buy.

Doesn't apply to iPad 2 and iPad Mini.

The issue is there is no contract (I hate contracts in general), and with that means that they can cut this service anytime they want. I'd hate for this to be a miscalculation and for T-Mobile to come back 3 months later and screw you over.

I don't get this. Worst case scenario, they cancel the free service, and you have to pay. Had they never offered the free service, you would also have to pay. I don't see how it's being "screwed over" to be in the exact same situation you were in before the offer existed.

Hard to get screwed on something given away for free. And I would think is more likely to drive more business to T-Mobile than be a problem they need to cancel.

200mb is a decent amount for light websurfing and plenty of emails and texting. And likely there will be some that need more data and since they've already sampled free data on T-Mobile may be more likely to sign up to some paid data plan.

it's free (*probably have to pay $1-$10 for that sim card?)

guess there's no 2 year limit to this offer? (like the google chromebook pixel verizon 2 year offer?)

I guess one possible scenario is someone who is deciding between the WiFi version or paying more for the cellular version. If they rarely travel with the device and use it almost entirely at home, they're not the kind to buy a data plan. If the free data is kicked out from under them unexpectedly, they would have ended up paying for cellular functionality that they won't use.

Anyway, I just connect my Nexus 7 to my Nexus 4's WiFi hotspot when I'm traveling, so even if I was offered free data, I'm not sure if the extra cost of the cellular version would be worth it, since tethering the phone isn't exactly a hassle for the kind of light occasional usage that a 200MB plan would be suitable for.

This is a great offer. 200mb should be plenty for light web browsing and phone calls. Since Google Hangout now can do VOIP Google Voice calls, you could use the iPad as a cell phone for free. We now have complete free cell service in the US thanks to Apple, Google, and T-Mobile.
