TIVO w/ POLL

Someone tell me about this. What's the best system, cost, any deals, modifications, anything. I know almost nothing about them, just that they record TV on a harddrive.

Hopefully, a replayTV user can let you know of some good ReplayTV resources. I'm a Tivo owner and couldn't be happier. From what I can tell, Tivo and ReplayTV are the 2 best systems, anything else will be decidedly inferior (such as units integrated with cable boxes).

Is TIVO better than ReplayTV?

I've never actually used a ReplayTV unit. The people on the tivocommunity message boards will tell you that Tivo > ReplayTV, but that's to be expected.

Wasn't there an issue about skipping commercials? Are there any recorders that still allow that, or would you have to buy an older model or is there any hacks for the newer ones?

Would it be better to get a TiVo system that comes with Tivo Basic rather than buying a cheaper system and then paying 13 dollars a month or 299 lifetime fee. The DVD combo seems to come with free basic as does the more expensive DVD recorder system.

I have TiVo with DirecTV and it rocks! Two tuners, $5/month fee...

I'm not sure how I ever lived without it. 🙂

We (my brother and I) bought our family a DirectTV Receiver+TiVO for Christmas. We already subscribed to DTV, so there was no extra fee to pay for the TiVO. All we had to do was activate the new card (no fee), and start using it. not bad for $99 from BB 🙂

Unless you subscribe to the TOTAL CHOICE® PREMIER package, there should be a charge.

Is it possible to run a TIVO setup with the COAX straight from the wall to the Tivo without having any cable box present?
The config would be Wall(Coax)-->Tivo(coax)--->TV

Is that possible?

tivo basic sucks big time I heard. only 3 days and no season passes. Series 1 tivo + turbonet +Big drive is the best bet probably at least for video archiving.Only get a series 2 if you know you want HMO.
