I just moved into a new apartment and to save the $20 a month for a landline phone I am going wireless.

Stupid me I decided to start from scratch and erase everything. Now I am trying to setup my TIVO again but it won't let me without a land phone.

Is there anyway around this or am I going to have to talk a friend into letting me use his phone just for the setup call.

HELP PLEASE!!

You can't. Even after setup, the shiet won't work. What you can try to do is get a wireless phone jack terminal, which you then will plug one into your friend/neighbour and one near your Tivo.

Since u have series 2, it can be connected by by broaddband through the router and enthernet. I have it running by using the router, amazing fast than the phoneline. All you need is wireless router and wireless adapter to connect your tivo.

You can check tivo community.... They usuallyhelp you out.

that call gets made every day to keep the data up-to-date. Looks like you just got a high-tech VCR...

edit: I stand corrected - you have a series 2

series 2 has an ethernet jack? :Q
I might have to consider getting one, but my current series one has 100 gb in it :(
I've been considering the ethernet mod though.

I thought Tivo Series 2 only has USB but it also has Ethernet?

That would be wicked awesome if we could hook ours up to the WiFi network.

Ahem.

Is this just a regular SA tivo, or a directivo?

I Have a D-link wireless router and USB wireless ethernet adapter hooked into my tivo.

Works like a dream when it can

I thought the usb ports were dead on the series 2 units?

EDIT: when I say dead I mean disabled now but put in for future use.

Even a series one will work with a home lan w/ internet connection. I got a ethernet adapter for it and no longer need my home phone line

a series 1 tivo requires a TivoNet (or whatever it's called) add-on card to add ethernet

a series 2 tivo has USB ports, with which you can use a USB nic

mines not hooked up through a land line or anything. Its modded to use a script called fixsub.tcl which fools the unit into thinking it has dialed out and made a successful connection. This is a directtivo though, not a regular tivo. The directtivo gets info from the satellite stream. I had to make this alteration to it because the room i am in has no phone jacks and I refuse to go buy a wireless phone jack just so my tivo can call out.

they work fine

I don't know about DirecTivo boxes, but standalone Series 2 Tivos have perfectly functioning USB ports. I *believe* that at one point they were non-functioning, but a Tivo software updated "turned them on" a WHILE ago (at least a year).
