Tivo Series 3 HD $348 at Amazon after $200 rebate

I acutally got an open box at OneCall, but this deal is what I otherwise would have used. I plan on using it in conjunction with Vista Media Center and my Xbox 360. We already make heavy use of the 360's extender abilities, and love it. Especially with the Logitech Harmony for Xbox 360 remote. Very, very good setup. Throw in the HD-DVD and how does it get better? Say good-bye to the crappy Cox DVR (at least mine's crappy).

I'm strongly considering this deal. I am so sick of my Cox DVR. BUT, and this is a big BUT, Cox charges big bucks to come out and install the CableCards. One tech told me $25 per card, but when I called back to verify how it works, the second tech told me $50 per card! So that would be $100 just to have cox come out and stick 2 cablecards in the TiVo. Not sure I want to spend that much money. Funny, the government forces cable companies to allow us to use cablecard technology so we can drop our cable boxes/dvr's, but then the cable companies, as always, figure out how to make any easy profit off of it. I can see $25, period, but up to $50 per card? That's insane. Still, I like this deal, and I like what the Series 3 has to offer.

I absolutely love my Series 3. Taking it away from me and replacing it with the Comcast DVR would be like taking out my dishwasher and making me wash dishes manually. Or taking away my washing machine and making me wash clothes in the lake or the bathtub.

The same thing happened to me! I wonder if we spoke to the same tech who quoted $25. When I called back to schedule the guy told me $50 per card, $100 total. I complained and said I was told $25, period. I asked him to look up my record and see if it says I called and what the reason was. Sure enough, he looked it up and they had notes showing I called a few days ago asking how much cablecard installation was. He put me on hold for some time, then came back and said they'd do the install for $50. So, since my Series 3 is already on the way, I agreed. Stupid Cox! The somewhat shared experience makes you realize it really is a small world. If you do order the Series 3 (or HD which is also cheap at Amazon) you should try to do what I did.

Existing Tivo customers - you can get a lifetime subscription for this box until 1/2/08. Lifetime is $400 I think.
