Tivo question about channels..

Or just to record what is on schedule & then view.

Also, does the Tivo signal go through the rf cable? or does it need phone/internet connection?

Think of TiVo as a VCR, you have a cable input (or antenna yuk) that the TiVo constantly records in streaming fashion. What the output connects to doesn't matter. So you should be just fine. For the TiVo to gather programming information, it needs to call home about once a day. It can do this with phone line dialing a local number or the much faster broadband method. Connecting to broadband will require some sort of adapter though.

Do you live in an apartment or house?

If you live in an apartment, you need to become good friends with one of your neighbors, and go to radio shack and get a really long phone cord.
Or take it to a buddy's house and let it dial in from there.

I thought the newer TiVo units could use ethernet or phone line?

Atleast that's what a friend looking to upgrade to a new TiVo box was telling me.

He's using his cell phone for internet though.

Well then he needs to get a DVR from his local cable company.

I'm thinking maybe routing it? but that's as far as my thoughts go. kinda clueless about the process if any. I've been wanting to the the lifetime deal off tivo, just haven't gotten serious about it yet.
