TIVO is currently the greatest invention of the new millenium

Arrrr, I loves me Tivo as well. 😉

Last night I flipped on the TV and watched the second part of the Statue of Liberty bike on American Chopper because Tivo recorded it just for me.

If I watched more then an hour of tv a week I might agree with you, but for someone who only watches tv for a few minutes a day (if that) I would have to say no.

I have a ReplayTV and I LOVE it. However mine is dying and Im going to have to live without it for weeks! ARGGGGGG how can I survive!

ReplayTV 5040 with Commercial Advance + Poopli.com + DVArchive > Tivo

What about vs. a modded DirecTIVO?

I gotta get off my arse and mod mine🙂

DirecTIVO's can be modded/hacked also.

The best thing about DirecTIVO is the quality is always set on high (there are no low or medium quality options).

The video is streamed digitally from satellite directly to the hard drive, there is no digital to analog conversion.

Now that I've had a chance to test out our ReplayTV 5040, there are benefits to each but the DirecTIVO is still my favorite.

Once I play around with IVS (Internet Video Sharing), Poopli.com and DVArchive I think I'll start to love our ReplayTV even more. Commercial advance is really nice, so far has worked flawlessly.

Tivos do rock. I've never seen a replay in action but heard the menu system and conflict resolution is not as good as a tivo.

I like my foreman grill - but cleaning it is a major pain in the ass.. they sould have made the grill parts removeable so I can submerge them to clean them. as is, its the most ridiculous thing I've seen

I don't completely submerge mine, however I do clean it with a lot of water running over it. I fill up the sink with soapy water, and while the grill is still warm I clean it with a soft scrub brush. I probably submerge the bottom third of the grill in the water as I clean it. I've been cleaning it like this for over 3 nows. No problems.

As far as TIVO goes, the television programming is so crap these days that there is nothing worth TIVO'ing to begin with. I don't watch much TV anymore anway due to the crap.

I have two ReplayTVs, one modded, and I agree that PVRs are the best damn thing since sliced bread. They totally change the way you use your TV. I'd put them up there with digital cameras as the best innovation in consumer electronics of the last 10 years.

goes back further than 10 years, but you gotta put the cell phone somewhere in there as well.

I gotta agree. It's the one piece of technology we own my wife actually likes and uses.

DirecTivo is awesome!

I love my ReplayTV.

When it crashed on me and didn't work for half a day, I was freaking out because I felt helpless without it. You don't realize how much you come to rely on these things.

what do you mean it "crashed" ?

Started stuttering.

Then it just shut down.

Tried rebooting but the thing would hang on the splash screen. Left it off a little longer and I got it into the guide screen but it hung again. After a few more times I gave up and left it on all night. The next morning it resurrected itself. This was on Easter too BTW 🙂

PVRs have operating systems, and they can get corrupted. They can also have many of the same problems computers have (hard drive failure, modems/motherboards going bad, problems with heat or power supply). I think they've gotten better, but crashes used to be fairly common in both RTVs and TiVos.

Oh man I know the feeling, mine crashes every few days... nothing fixes it. Replay is going to RMA it, dunno what Ill do without it till it gets replaced.
