http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-titanfall-xbox-360-performance-analysis

This is excellent news for 360 owners who haven't scraped together next-gen cash yet (or don't have, or don't like playing FPS on PC).

From all accounts it looks to deliver the game in spades.

Someone who bought an XB1 to play this game shouldn't feel disappointed imho. The XB1 version is of course superior, while the 360 version looks more than playable, and damn fine work for such an old console.

Advantages to buying the XB1 for Titanfall of course go far beyond simply playing that one game, and this will probably be one of the last times that a major release gets a cross-gen release (with a handful of others this year such as Watch Dogs).

Not really in the mood to let this turn into a bash XB1 or conspiracy thread, it is what it is, and there is ample reason to believe what you want regardless of whether you think the 360 version is amazing or terrible. So please keep the comments on the topic of the game as it stands on the 360. Anybody here going to pick it up? I still have a number of friends who have 360s until the next-gen consoles really get some libraries behind them that aren't dominated by cross-gen games or HD sequels that don't add much (which is certainly coming in the months and years ahead).

I think another person in an already existing thread (was it you?) said that Titanfall is not a reason to get an Xbox One but if you have an Xbox One, Titanfall is worth getting.

I'm having a hard time convincing myself to get this for the 360 because I have not bought Xbox Live Gold yet and I refuse to do so based on principle. That Principle is that I should only have to buy the game and not pay a penny more to get it to work as it should out of the box. There should be no extra cost to get an additional experience or in this case, just to get the game to work.

On that note:
1) Do I need a headset to play this game ... I mean get the whole experience?
2) How much does 6 months of Xbox Live Gold cost if I go cheap?

That was me, I said that.

1. You don't need a headset, I never use mine (the included headset for the One is total junk and uncomfortable). Really, the campaign is nothing worth paying attention to, they don't do a good job of explaining it at all.

2. There's not real "go cheap" option. I think they only sell Gold as 1 month, 3 months, 12 months, and 24 months. I got a month with my One, then Forza and Rivals came with a week of Gold, so Titanfall on the 360 might as well. Regardless, you get a bigger discount on Gold based on the amount you buy. I think it's $10 for one month, $24 for 3 months, $60 for 12, and $100 for 24. You can get it on Amazon for less, usually. The alternative is to use Bing Rewards, where after a month of using it, you should have the Gold status necessary on there to earn 30 points/day through searching on Bing. You can therefore get 900 points/month (roughly), and you can get a month of LIVE through Bing Rewards for 679 points (I think, might be a little off), meaning you can essentially get LIVE free.

the game works 100% fine without xbox live gold as it should. you just can't play it online on xbox live, which is the only way to actually get in games and play. but you can go through the menus and stuff no problem. so have fun with that.

if $3/mo is too much for you to handle to enjoy hours upon hours of entertainment, then just get it for pc or just accept the fact that you are missing out on something you could be having countless hours of fun on because you refuse to pay less than a gallon of gas per month.

Titanfall is a multi player only game. Why would you consider buying it if you know you don't have a gold account? It's not their fault if you can't play multiplayer due to account limitations.

I don't understand the point of this "principle"... MS isn't going to stop charging for Gold (neither is Sony, for that matter.) The ONLY end result is that you are missing out on some really fun entertainment.

You can easily find deals for $40 for a year of Gold.

Pretty much.

OP, if you have a PC, almost any PC, a $150 750ti will let you play Titanfall (and many other cool games) on there with no extra online fee.

Otherwise, online play for consoles is pretty much all pay-to-play these days, has been that way for eons now on 360 anyway. Basically it costs you about the price of a game per year, not the end of the world. It would be nice if it were free, but it just isn't the case.

As for the 360 Titanfall, I now know two people that bought it (roommates, so they are pretty deadly when they team up lol), and they LOVE it. Seems like a ridiculously good port. One of them has an XB1 and Titanfall, but because he was the only one of his friends that has one, he actually prefers the 360 version now. Weird but I guess I can understand.

Arkaign,

Can you ask your friend about a 360 vs xb1 comparison. Obiovusly the graphics are better on xb1 but does the lower resolution and lower quality textures make it harder to see things of importance (enemy players in the distance for example)?

Actually, that is probably my only real question.

Curious though. I think I read that the xb1 has a higher framerate. Is that true and does it matter?

i don't know if it's just me, but in general in titanfall i always had a problem seeing the enemies vs my teammates. i also had that problem in call of duty though. it is because they don't put any kind of icon over them until they are like in your sights. and the colors are so similar with the teams too.

in halo the colors are so drastically different that it's obvious, and they also have icons over your player no matter where they are in your view or on the screen.

Okay, feedback on that, paraphrased because I don't remember his precise wording is this :

The 360 graphics are simplified a bit, so it's actually a little easier to see enemies (the screen is less 'busy' with effects/yadda). The only example when this is not the case is things that are extremely far away are less defined (though in TF, things at extreme range aren't super high on the imminent threat scale).

As everyone is platform-limited, it won't give anyone a leg up or down.

The framerate on the XB1 averages close to 60 much of the time, though bogs when a bunch of Titans are visible, and a couple of maps are worse than others for display lag/tearing. On the 360 this average is around 45-46, or you can cap it at a solid 30 (which is what my friends both prefer after trying it both ways).

Hope that helps, win/win either way. I'd pick the 360 version if you have a 360, the XB1 version if you have the XB1, exception being if you want to play with your 360 friends.
