Having used wireless for ps3 and 360 for 7 years that was a major reason the first project at my new house was running cat5 through the whole house.

Oh, forgot to add : had no internet during a big winter storm, and called support to get info, and didn't run into any trouble because of my modem. Tech was able to connect to it and run diagnostics on the line strength with no difficulties, nor did he make me feel like a Ted Kaczynski social rebel for not being yet another modem leaser :D

So the SB6141 you linked to is the modem you're using on TWC currently?

Yep, the exact one. They tried to send me one of their all-in-ones, I sent it straight back (when I signed up I told them in advance I didn't need a modem).

I've set other people on cable up a few dozen times, and always use Surfboards. For whatever reason they're ludicrously stable, only one has failed out of all of them, and it died along with everything else (lightning strike on the transformer about 60 yards away, lol).

How's the range on this router: http://www.amazon.com/802-11ac-Wirel...asus+ac+router
? I like the sleek look.

Ever since my wrt54g died a few months back, had it for 12 years roughly, I've had nothing but problems with my new linksys e1200.

PM me if you want, can't get the link to work, and don't want to completely derail TF thread into a router thread :D

FWIW I have yet to have a bad experience with Asus routers, and have used most of their current models, so my rule of thumb is : If it's Asus, if it's new/recent, it will be great. And as much as I'm not an Apple fanboy (like their notebooks, meh/10 on their phones/desktops), the Airports are always a golden ticket if you want stable and easy, with terrific range. Not the best $ for $ value, but the quality is exceptional.

Back to TF :) I think it's extremely promising, I hope that it both reinvigorates the COD franchise (as I think it will light a fire given Ghosts disappointing numbers) and generates an even better sequel. I've also heard that Respawn wasn't really happy with the release build, and will be patching it for better performance (and who knows, maybe fill in some of the needlessly terrible textures, as the XB1 is obviously capable of better).

Hell, I'll just pick one up at Best Buy tonight. Funny thing is that I just got a $50 VISA card in the mail from TWC after switching to the higher internet tier and paying on time for 3 months. I'll just put it towards the modem. :)

Word is they're also working to increase the res closer to 900p-ish.

To get this out of router/modem talk and back to game talk, I figure I've played enough now to give some impressions. Overall, the game is just pure fun. I've put in 30+ matches and have leveled up to around 22 or 23 at the moment, all I want to do is play more. One of my favorite things about the game is how little downtime there is during a match. You're always going and there's practically no wait to respawn. In other games I'll sometimes get frustrated when I get killed, but here there's no time to think about because you're right back in it.

The maps so far are a mixed bag for me, mainly because I'm often on foot and not in a titan. Some maps are awesome for infantry (Angel City and Colony come to mind) whereas others are obviously made with the titans in mind, Airbase and Overlook (I'm pretty sure these are the right names) in particular are two that is just plain difficult if you're on foot. It's these maps where I get frustrated because it just doesn't seem like there's many places to hide. I'm currently horrible in a titan so I almost exclusively leave them on auto-follow, they always last 5x longer if I don't get in. Most maps do seem very well balanced for pilots and titans, so all in all it's a pretty good mix. There are still a couple of maps I haven't played on yet.

I've played through both campaigns and they're basically worthless. It's a bunch of voice-overs that I didn't even pay attention to. I'd occasionally realize somebody was talking for the story during a match but the action is so constant, there's no way anybody could even pay attention without slowing down or just plain stopping (or at least I can't). I'm sure Respawn had bigger and better things in mind with this campaign but it just falls completely flat. Once you beat it, you're done, there's absolutely no reason to go back (which is fine with me, see first sentence in this paragraph).

In terms of game modes, TF is pretty light. There are just 4 or 5 modes and that's it. No custom types, just plain vanilla team deathmatch, CTF, 3-point capture and titan-only. In my opinion, when people question the longevity of this game, I can see their point. It's weird to have a game of this magnitude with such little content. The content that is there is a hell of a lot of fun, I do question how long it will hold high player counts though. I hope that Respawn is planning on adding the stuff they are promising sooner rather than later. TF just doesn't have some of the stuff that AAA shooters should have by default these days.

I really enjoy the 6v6 with bots idea. I love that I can still kill stuff even if I'm doing average against real players. I still contribute somewhat without feeling like I'm dying every few seconds. It makes the maps feel more alive as well to make up for the lack of humans. So far, games like attrition and the checkpoint capture gametype feel very balanced. I like the idea of burn cards as well, it's a neat addition that I've not seen before in a game, however them being limited to one life kinda sucks. They feel like a complete waste because I'm completely average and rarely go more than a couple of pilot kills before getting killed myself. If they lasted two lives, that would be infinitely better, it would be like getting a second chance.

That's a pretty good summary. It's an obvious buy for anyone with an XB1 at this point, but reading between the lines it's pretty clear that it was 'hurried' to put it kindly. The fact that Respawn is already publicly talking about raising the res to 900 (hopefully) kind of speaks to that end.

On the positive side, the core mechanics of the game are good. So expansions/updates/patches, and most especially the eventual sequel (no-brainer there) should truly hold the fulfillment to the ludicrous hype train that got poured into this one.

Disclosure : played about 2 hours on XB1, about 5 hours on PC total, and I'm done for now. Recommend to XB1 owners almost universally, recommend looking into for PC FPS junkies, and look forward to what comes down the line. As I said I think this can be a boon to COD as well, as nothing shakes things up like real competition (and of course BF captured a large number of sales this go-round already, even with the massive problems for so long).

Hurried isn't what I would use. It is known pretty well that the XB1 dev kits weren't finalized until pretty close to launch. That didn't give them an enormous amount of time to optimize the game on the actual console. It seems like they did pretty good with what they had, given the time they had.

It is pretty good they are actually patching in stuff like increased res, as most developers would just leave it as is unless they could sell us a HR pack for $4.99.

blurredvision, you made a lot of good points so I won't touch on all of them. I will say that while the lack of modes can be looked at by being short changed, it seemed like to me in the past most shooter gamers would find the mode that worked for themselves or their teams and would just stick with them, so I don't think it is anything horrible to have 5 modes at launch. I am hoping that they will add more modes to the map packs that come out, since that would be added value and might make more people buy them.

Maybe I worded that poorly. They did do well given the timing, but I believe they could have done a bit better if they weren't set on a March release date. It seems probable that was an EA/MS pressure point rather than an ideal polishing schedule. There are a lot of textures that look like placeholders, and the performance is definitely not optimal across the board. BF4 is another EA title that even more so reeked of executive tampering to meet a counterlogical release date.

Rushing titles out to patch later has become the norm so I'm not singling out TF here, and it certainly isn't terrible. IMHO the core of it is great, I just wonder what might have been with a few more months to polish, and hope that they follow through with that as things move along. From their interviews and statements it looks good on that front.

Well I buckled and bought the Titanfall package. What a stupid, ridiculous amount of fun. All I can say for now.

Don't mean to cut back to router talk but does Motorola make a telephony modem? I have home phone service from Comcast too as the triple play discount I get from them turns out to actually be cheaper than turning off the phone service. I have heard that telephony modems that work are rare.

I agree with everything you guys are saying about titanfall though. It needs more content but what is there, is great.

So last night I finally was on the other end of the Ogre arm pull execution. I always loved it when I would do it, but mashing the hell out of the eject button only to find out you can't do that while a titan beats me to death with my own arms turned out to be rather funny.

Do tell how one does this, sounds badass :)

I got my own taste of the game today finally. It is a lot of fun, no doubt about it. I tried playing the campaign, in order to unlock the other titan chassis, but every time I tried (once in the morning and once in the afternoon) it wasn't able to find people for the opposing team. WTF? I'll probably try again Saturday afternoon/evening.

Overall I think things are pretty balanced. I can't think of anything that gives someone a massive advantage over another. Like anything, if you're up against a group of people who know what they are doing and work even reasonably together, you will die pretty quickly (even in a Titan). At the same time, you can be a rogue and do fairly well if you stay on the fringes with a silenced gun.

And of course the community can make any game play shitty from time to time. I ran into a handful of people who liked to sit in the back of the map and pick people off, or head glitch somewhere and just be annoying.

Attrition is won or lost on the minions if you ask me. Everyone gets a handful of pilot & titan kills, some more than others, but the easy minion kills are what win the game. I'm looking forward to trying the other game modes, just spent a little time getting acclimated in Attrition today.

What's everyone's strategy for rodeoing a Titan? 9 times out of 10 the pilot jumps out and more often than not kills me. A lot lately are running the electric smoke, which is REALLY annoying. I'm thinking the way to do it now will be to work their shields down with the missiles and then rodeo for the kill, if I want.

The arc grenades are awesome, much more effective than the regular ones IMO. Each gun seems to have its own role, I just unlocked the semi-auto one (G-something?).

The graphics are pretty good as well, coming from a 360, and I've noticed very few connection issues. Overall very good game, but as others have pointed out we'll see how long it lasts. I'll be very interested to see what they do with DLC!

Picked up the SB6141, got TWC to do what they needed to do and now I'm up and running how it was intended....with a dedicated modem and a dedicated router. Played a few matches tonight and not a single hiccup (multiple reconnects and teleporting last night), ping to east servers is down around 42ms (~53ms last night) and my console is now getting ~100% signal from my better router (~80% with the old one).

Hopefully it's all a sign for the better.

Win!

I very seldom like the modem+wireless combo things, and it's the worst when you're stuck with one that doesn't really have a bridged mode option to run it without the routing functions.

There are some things we could do to your router to improve performance even more :

(1)- Get this : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer
(or an equivalent if you have an iphone instead). Find the least busy channel you can.

(2)- Change the wireless channel to the least 'busy' one using the above app.

(3)- Look at this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enaNfUruc8E

*- set up a username/password if you haven't already

*- try disabling QoS if you have it on (Buffalo sometimes calls this 'movie engine'), it artificially limits bandwidth use to reserve data, which introduces additional processing delays, and that can increase lag in gaming

*- try testing to see if you get better (non-gaming) results with an alternative DNS, OpenDNS and Google DNS make for some nice options there

*- TURN OFF the auto-setup option (AOSS/WPS), this is a big security hole in modern routers. Make sure you have WPA2, AES and TKIP are both fine. Everything is hackable, but leaving the auto-setup 'push-botton' connection option makes hacking ludicrously easy (and some routers don't actually turn if off when you set it off, but that's a different story).

*- If you want another tiny step towards the absolute minimal delays, you can set your XB1 up on a static IP, just choose an IP that's out of the DHCP range on your router. Then go to the firewall section of the router and place that IP into the 'DMZ'. This bypasses port processing basically for that IP, a small additional step that will increase the raw speed/latency efficiency for your connection to the XB1. This can also be done on PCs as well, but typically a router only allows a single DMZ address (don't use it on PCs with outdated security, but the XB1 itself will be more than fine without sitting behind the router's broadband processing).

*- If you get really into wanting the absolute best from your Buffalo, give a shot at learning DD-WRT : http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Buffalo_WZR-HP-G300NH

It can be daunting at first, but it opens up a ton of options not available in the Buffalo firmware. Basically think of a Router as having a CPU, an OS, Memory, and a Radio. OEM Firmware (the OS) can vary drastically, and even though a router's CPU (in your case a 400Mhz Atheros) and memory (64MB) might be quite good. Also, the stock firmware might limit your signal strength from what the radio is capable of. In the best cases, a $100ish router can be turned into something better than what normally costs 4-5x or more that price.

I hope that helps some, take a break between blowing things up and check it out ;)

Why hello thar

There's nothing I love more than finding out someone just jumped on my back: 1> deploy smoke 2> sit in said smoke and wait

The smart ones jump off. The others end up as a fried corpse caked to my shoulder.

Honestly, rodeoing becomes less and less of a viable tactic as people get more experienced, and if you're going to do it, it seems like you REALLY need the shotgun.

Personally, I've taken to just lobbing satchel charges as titans and then finishing them off with my AT weapon. Those charges seem to do a !@#$ton of damage, but you need to get in close and then be able to escape (unless you're using Dead Man's Trigger, in which case, proceed with your jihad).

The one thing that bothers me about titan fall is the gun mechanics. It feels a lot like battlefield 3 to me. It just doesn't have the solid feel that Ghosts has, but I guess you can't expect totally polished FPS combined with perfect Mech controls too (which I do think are great).

Look sensitivity is just a bit weird to me. Maybe it's just cuz i'm playing on a new system.

Love Titan executions. Going back on BV's points, those are all very good and valid. The world is so rich, I now wish there were a campaign, better yet in co-op ala Halo with good ai enemy pilot n grnts n spectres.
