I bought Titan Quest Gold the other day and have played up to level 9 on my first character and I like the game, but it is a little easy. So I saw that people were recommending the xmax mods. Problem is, I can't find a version that will work for the gold pack that includes Immortal Throne. Each time I try a mod it tells me it was made for a earlier version.
So anyone know where I can find the mods that work with gold edition?
Also, what mods do ya'll find usefull/fun?

Most of the MOD's out there were written with Immortal throne in mind I am afraid. In order to get them to eork, you may need that installed.

As for a place to ster you stared, I would reccomend:
TitanQuest.net

Theres a boatload of information and ideas, plus links and forms to be had there.

I have Immortal Throne installed. Most of the mods I've tried will not work with it.
I think I have been there, but I'll check that site out more closely.

Just wait till you get to Legendary mode. Stuff will kick your ass, not to mention the bosses that will be quite challenging. The Hades fight was awesome on legendary. Loot drops are crazy too

does anything change when you increase the difficulty levels (aside from monster stats)?

It is similar to changing difficulties in D2, if you have played that.

Do they deck your RES in TQ as you go up in difficulty?

Yea this is true. In the start my bro and I were all about pumping our dmg, dual wielding, etc, but by the end of normal difficulty I was being 1-2 shotted and he was spamming pots and dying more often then we'd like. The mobs dmg really ramps up bigtime toward the last couple acts.

Well I assumed people on the PC gaming forum would know that D2 = Diablo 2, especially in a Titan Quest thread (which is almost always compared to Diablo II).

TQ obviously means Titan Quest, unless you are a bit dim.

That only leaves RES, which is understandable not to know. By RES, I meant resistance (as in elemental resistances). In Diablo 2, higher difficulties would subtract from you resistances. I was wondering if Titan Quest followed suit.

However, I don't think the use of one abbreviation really deserves a comment insinuating that I am not speaking english.

Ahhhh, so "deck" means "reduce". This I also did not know.

The answer to the original question is:
Yes, it does. And that sucks when you start getting blasted by the skeleton mages with fire, ice & lightning. The hit isnt quite as stong as Diablo 2 when moving between difficulties but its noticeable.

From Dictionary.com...

deck:
19. Informal. to knock down; floor: The champion decked the challenger in the first round.

:p

EDIT: It is only the 19th definition because they go through 16 noun definitions first. "To knock down" is the third most common verb definition for deck, behind to dress and to actually furnish a deck.

The best thing is that certain monsters only appear in the harder difficulties.

You can be running around like normal, bump into the Hydra (Legendary only) and be wiped before you even know whats hit you.

Special bosses appearing in the same location every time, a wonderful touch. Talos, Hydra, Dragon Lich... all good fun.

BUMP!!!!

Your favorite builds, and why.

I like my war/defense build alright. Not much ranged power but he can take and deal damage very well. Cant use the special abilties very often, even with lots of mana potions. But the always active and passive abilities are great.

My earth/storm chick is pretty good for dealing ranged and close damage, but she isnt very durable. I am always using pets as defense and constantly have to enable the stone skin for protection and healing. But I love her ability to get ridiculous burn and frost burn damage with her high-end staffs. The passive fire and ice damage boosters are really nice. She can do lots of instant damage along with plenty of burn over time damage. Thats good for bosses when you want to run and avoid their attacks after a hit (especially Typhon).

My hunter/rogue is very sweet. She has several pieces of equipment that add +1 to all hunting or rogue skills, sometimes both. Her passive abilities and boots give her insane run speeds and she also has very respectable attack speeds, which is nice because bows are normally slow. I have some points in spear abilities but rarely use melee. I have found with the right combination in ranged skills she can take out several enemies with one arrow hit. If they dont die instantly from high piercing damage then the massive poison & bleeding will finish them off in a second or two. I have plenty of charms that boost piercing, bleeding and poison as well as some boost to attack & run speed. Like the assasin in Diablo 2 she covers ground and wipes out enemies quickly, making her game and level progress a little faster than the other characters. Insane damage capability but she isnt as tough as the warrior/defender.

The spirit/nature mage is a bit more difficult, especially because he is the one I played last and I was used to easy damage from the other three characters. He cant dish out massive damage, especially with groups of enemies. The vitality damage along with weak poison and life leech just isnt good enough, especially against undead. I got him the full Necromancers Set but it only helped a little bit. Looks like I will reassign skill points and instead of trying to do direct damage I will make use of the pets, of which there are plenty.

So far I dont think they intended for us to use similar classes together. Aside from the hunter/rogue all my characters have serious weaknesses which makes them annoying to play. I think the best classes are balanced with raw firepower and magic support. I understand the war/hunting combo is very popular for its ridiculous ranged and melee power. But aside from that they recommend one fighter and one mage.

The Dream class added by the expansion is neat in that its balanced between intelligence and strength. I was thinking it would go nicely with most classes, especially Spirit. I am running him solo right now and he's at level 10. Still dont know who I want him to combine with.

I'm running a dream/defense that does not seem to do a lot of damage but is so defensive that he never dies, it just takes forever to kill some things.
I also have a storm/spirit that I'm still very early in, but I love the pets. The wil-o-the-wisp type pet seems to be almost indestructible and makes a decent tank for the lich, with that build I am really just walking along to pick up the loot.

I have a level 34 War/Defense and a level 14 Earth/Storm as well. I prefer my tank, but once the sorceror gets up in level I may like playing around with her more as well.

A Conqueror, Warfare/Defense is essentially an unstoppable killing machine. Focus on the defense side first and gear all your equipment towards armor class and maximizing resistances. Even Typhon, Hades and the Overlord Passage monsters won't be able to hurt you. That was one of the the major problems with the game. If you build the right character the right way it's WAYYYYYYY too easy. Get a tank with dual wield and a couple of weapons that steal health when they hit and you can skate through legendary without even touching a healing potion.

Well, I like my spirit/nature a whole lot more now. Just found an amulet that gives me +6 Energy per second! :Q
That along with the fully loaded Erebus Set gives me an energy regen of 22.5.
Because of that I decided to put lots of points into Ternion Attack and its booster skill.
It lets me shoot 3 blasts at once from any staff and also gives the bolts a small blast radius, which is something I DESPERATELY wanted with my storm/earth chick and never got.
Now with practically unlimited mana I am going through enemies like a madman. Can also summon the Outsider more frequently, which is cool.

The amulet also gives my pets a HUGE health bonus and 10% move speed bonus. Finally I am having fun with this character. Thought about farming some Hecates Crescents for the extra energy regen, but I really dont need it (yet).

Does this game still have an online community? Can you play online with semi-secure characters or is it like open-BNET where every game you join is just hacked characters/gear?

**edit**

asking because I just noticed TQ and the expansion can be bought on direct2drive for 20 bucks, might give it a shot

It's open. I'd recommend looking on the titanquest.net forums for a game over Hamachi, or arranging something with other members here.
