Well, just got back from handing in my 'sketch' problem. First project (warm up project) for the second semester of my second year. This was the first time my professor has taught second year, previously taught first year. Anyway, half of use didn't finish and he seemed quite upset. But I don't know what the heck he wanted from us. Most of us didn't sleep since Thursday night (power naps here and there) working on the final presentation drawings and models.

So he came in before we handed it in, and told us how we expected to do the drawings in a day, it is "bullshit, don't kid yourselves, you can't come up with a good drawing in a day or two." Anyway, I've heard great things about this professor from last year, and he's not too bad, but the way he wants us to design (the process) is wack.

We had one day to come up with three parti models, and from there we went straight to HARDLINE drawings (plans, sections and elevations). I don't know how he expected us to resolve our designs, when most of the time was spent trying to come up with these carefully drawn hardlined drawings. He also scolded us for doing everything at the last minute, but because we virtually had no design time in the beginning, we spent the past week trying to work out the kinks of an unresolved design. I started my final presentation drawings Thursday night, and yet it still wasn't enough. I had to go back time and time again to correct kinks I hadn't notice before.

So anyway, this was just a long rant... I'm tired as hell and pissed off that I couldn't finish the project on time. Past couple of days of sleepless nights didn't produce any results. I gotta present tomorrow, so I just want to get it over with and work on my M&A project that's due on Thursday...

Life is suck... Architecture is suck... CMU is suck... I is suck... :D

ps: Why am I studying architecture? You don't make much money, you have to go to school for at least 5 years then 3 years of crappy internships before you take your licensing exam (one for each state you practice in) which no one hardly ever passes on the first try. On top of that, you'll probably be a CAD monkey designing bathroom fixtures until you are around 40 or 50, and hopefully by that time, you'll actually be able to start designing you own buildings. Is it worth it? I don't know...

As George Costanza once said on Seinfeld, "I always wanted to be an architect".

Tip: if you don't enjoy it, find another way of living. You only have one life. Might as well enjoy living it. But you're right: the Great Builders are no more. Still one can find tolerance if not enjoyment in a practical career.
