Hollywood Video (at least my local one) has a good selection of foreign and independent films for rent.

I wouldnt say they are running out of ideas, im sure all the studios get hundreds of scripts mailed to them everyday. They are just scared to take a risk and try something new, so they remake stuff to appease the name recognition in the public.

I don't mind remakes of very old movies or movies that were not extremely popular and well known but some of stuff is boring.

off the top of my head I know next year we can see Superman, this year we just had another Batman movie. and the 1st one came out less than 20 years ago.

Veronica Mars has TONS of twists that avoid falling into the cliche setup/resolution recycled in 99% of all Hollywood tv/movies. It is much better for its originality. If Hollywood would just take a chance, we could have better entertainment. Unfortunately, they see the movies and shows as a commodity which should be cranked out and packaged like a factory that makes clothes/foood/whatever ubstead of a creative process, so we're stuck with formula.

Nice rant on the Death Race 2000 remake. Without Stallone, Carradine, Steele, Corman and the over-the-top shlock of the '70s the remake is going to be much less than good.

If you like cheesy B-movies, especially ones where drivers earn points for running over children and the elderly, do yourself a favor and rent the original Death Race 2000.

I had to laugh when I first heard that Ocean's 12 was in the works. Only in Hollywood would someone have the balls to do a sequel of a remake. Speaking of which, get ready for The Italian Job 2. Eeesh...

How about sequels you'd like to see? Anybody wonder what Ferris Beuller is doing 20 years later? Maybe a follow up to Black Rain?





Edit: Just saw that there will be a Basic Instinct 2... Staring Sharon Stone. Errr...

I think so, but I watched it a month or so ago just for grins and it really wasn't that bad.
