I've been using this mb since November and it seems that I have random problems about once every couple months. I have a feeling that it's defective but I'm not willing to go without a computer due to the RMA process. Currently I have 512 mb of ECC ram which I'd like to reuse. I also do not need any type of onboard LAN or sound, but that won't be an absolute limit. Which one of the current boards should I consider? I can also consider going with a board that supports PC2700 ram and maybe getting some new PC2700 ram since the price isn't bad. (Samsung 512mb PC2700 about $150 at Newegg). On-board RAID is something that also interests me since a PCI card cost as much as a new board if I where to wait.

I haven't used the ECC mode, but that's not necessary with this board to use ECC memory. Do you think that running it in ECC mode will actually fix the problem otherwise? I have updated the BIOS, purchased a new PSU, updgraded the cooling, removed all PCI cards, tried 3 HDs, tried another video card, tried each stick of RAM seperately, and tried new RAM.

Basically, my rig is having problems running at a 133 fsb on occasion. After a lot of messing around, I can get it stable at 133, but after a couple months it will flake out for no reason. Right now for example, I'm running at 100 mhz and everything is fine, but once I go to 133 files will start to corrupt, or logging into WinXP causes the system to halt and reboot. When I first put this thing together I also had a hard time getting it to post and my only solution was running it at 100 mhz. At that time I returned the RAM and went with Crucial and then bumped the fsb back up. That seemed to fix the problem, but now I believe that the RAM was never an issue, but rather the board was faulty. Now that I hear about Abit's RMA process, I think that buying a new board may be a better solution.

You may want to check this thread, but it looks like Bios version 5w maybe a problem and you may want to give 5e a try.

This thread is 1188 long and I didn't have sufficient time to go all the way thru.

I've since given up on that board and moved to a new Epox 8k3a board which is totally awesome.
