Have a set of Turanza EL400s. Tires are 6 years old and have 25k on them. PSI is 36-38 cold according to the TPMS. Door jamb says it should be 32, but the dealership set it this way and said it would be better. (?)

When I leave work, particularly on a warmer day, I get a slapping sound from the tires until I make it a couple miles down the street.

Apparently this is common if a car has been sitting for a few days (although 7 hours seems a bit much), and Google found quite a few people complaining about similar problems with this specific tire.

While I'm not ready to replace them if I don't have to, I'm curious what y'all would recommend as a good replacement?

TIA

My weekend ride sometimes sits for weeks and it's tires are fine. They are a mix of Bridgestone Potenzas and Dunlop somethings. Bridgestone Turanzas tend to be great tires. Unless they began just using the name to sell more of their cheaper line. My last car had wonderful Turanza Serenity Plus. Great for a quiet, supple ride. Do not use them if you plan on any sport driving.

New car has stock Goodyear Eagles. Nothing special. I got spoiled by the Serenity Plus and plan on buying whenever it's time for a replacement.

Used to hear this complaint all the time years ago when bias ply tires were the norm. Hadn't heard much about that since radials became dominant. Sounds like maybe the construction isn't what is being portrayed if the OP's statement that there are numerous complaints about this particular tire....

2012 Acura TL base trim (17" wheels, P245/50R17). Minnesota summer weather. (70s-80s) and quality of roads is generally fine.

I've only had the car for a couple months, and am fairly certain the tires were original to the car. Winter will be educational.

I found a cartalk.com thread where somebody claimed it was fairly normal for nylon (as opposed to steel) belted tires. These are apparently nylon.

Elsewhere, it was mentioned that nylon is more common in "performance" tires, along with softer rubber, and they're more susceptible to flat spots like this.

I'm not aiming to tear up any roads - just want something quiet and smooth. :D

I am boring.

Yeah, there's always the "boring" route. Too bad your car and tire size aren't exactly catered to in boring tires. But....took a look at Tire Rack and these two seem at least interesting to me. Granted, I've owned both brands and favor them over almost all the others TR sells for your car.

Continental: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tire...a&autoYear=2012&autoModel=TL&autoModClar=Base

Pirelli: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tire...a&autoYear=2012&autoModel=TL&autoModClar=Base

I'd give a push towards the Continentals...just my bias...but would absolutely own a set of the Pirellis.

And while I usu. pimp for Michelins, they're wholly overpriced for your size. Can't believe how expensive they are.
