Tire question w/ 2009 Honda Fit Sport

Currently, I have 25,000 miles on the car, the tire thread is worn down enough so that it won't pass inspeciton.

The current tire size is 185/55R16, cheap tires that don't last very long. I've had the car for 2 years.

I am looking getting a bigger tire, however I am not sure if this is safe or not, here's what I'm looking at getting: 205/50R16.

Your overall tire diameter is going to go up by one tenth of an inch, which is insignificant. As long as wider tires will fit without rubbing anything, you should be fine.
 
you wont rub, but the tire might be too big for your rim

what is stock size tire and rim (width)

From what I found, it's a 6" wide wheel - 205 series will fit but I wouldn't go any larger (I have 205's on 6" and 225's on 7" on my MR2).

That's not much bigger, your speedo will read a little slow and it should be okay safety-wise. Do it.

Going off the UTQG, the above tires would outlast the Michelins you have linked. They're also less expensive and you have an increased resistance to hydroplaning while retaining the smaller footprint of your OE tire size.

Edit: That being said, I'm partial to Michelin tires after multiple excellent experiences, particularly the wear characteristics of the last set that was on the truck.

Isnt the first number the tire diameter?

60mph/185*205 = 66.5mph

So you think you're going 60 but you're actually doing 66.5.

You didn't take sidewall height into consideration. 😉

PFFT sneaky edit!

The first number is width, and the second is sidewall height as a percentage of width. The third number is wheel diameter.

Woa, I Could have sworn the Michelen's I linked were 75k. Himm, I'm a little hesitent to go with another Bridgestone, I wonder if it's just the partiuclar model that I Have now? (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...r=2009&autoModel=Fit%20Sport&autoModClar=)

Ok, so, between these two tires. Which do you think would be longer lasting? I've had great experience with Michelin tires on our other car, I've had poor experience with the Bridgestones on my current car (They are a low end model tire though).

Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S: 205/50R16 -- 6years/45k tread life
Bridgestone Potenza G 019 Grid: 205/50R16 -- 5years/50k tread life

Also, will this size effect my speedo much?

FWIW.. i have an 07 and i swapped the oems at 33k mi. I got kumho ecsta asx at $75/piece.. pretty nice
 
I also have a 09 Fit. The OEM tire dimensions are "odd" and there aren't many tires for it as opposed to other sizes. So I'll be in the same boat as the OP in a few months here.
