Tire puncture through sidewall/shoulder... replace?

Got a nail through my sidewall last night. Already swapped it for my spare. Is this tire still safe to use, or should I start looking for a replacement? Already pulled the nail out, no air leakage.

looks like it went through the rubber that is supposed to wear eventually - seems ok to me

I'd take it to a decent tire shop and see what they say. But I'm leaning towards ok. might have gotten very lucky

I would have just pulled that out and carried on.

i'd leave it alone - that part of the tire is pretty thick and the puncture is near the surface, above that groove next to it even.

You got lucky, it only went through the trread block. It missed the sidewall altogether. Probably did not even lose any air, so you should be good to go. Now had you driven on the tire like that, after a few corners, it might have got into the sidewall. But it does not look like it did.

Yep. Doesn't look like it went though anything but the actual tread. Doesn't look like it hit anything vital. Pull it out, keep on rolling.
