Ok, this time I'm a little more prepared :) I checked a couple of places today, and I think I'm going to purchase from the local Sam's Club. Here are the details:

Dunlop SP40s
65,000-mile tire
S speed rating
UTQG = 500
$43.52 each, 210.08+Tax installed

B.F. Goodrich Touring T/A Pro
70,000 tire
T speed rating
UTQG = 640
$55.04 each, 256.16+Tax, installed

Goodyear Allegra
75,000-mile tire
T speed rating
UTQG = 560

Michelin X-Radial
80,000-mile tire
S speed rating
UTQG = 740
$68.43 each, $309.72+Tax installed; 259.72 after $50 instant rebate

As sort of a side-note, I also checked out Sears, and they had the following:

Sumitomo HTR-H4
65,000-mile tire
H speed rated
UTQG = 400
Traction = A
Temp = A
$65 each, ~$385 installed

All tires except the Sumitomos were rated at A for traction and B for temp, I believe.

Tires are 195/70-14, and are going on a Pontiac Sunfire SE 4-door. I live in the midwest, so I drive in a little bit of everything - good dry weather, pouring rain, ocasional snow in the winter, etc.

EDIT: Please see the question in my most recent post at / near the bottom of the page!

What is the treadwaer , temp, and traction rating of the tires?

Don;t buy a tire because of the name. They all make good and bad tires.

Well those are all great tires, but I've had the best results with the cheap A$$ tires I bought from Wally World. Paid extra for lifetime rotation, balancing, repair. Cheaper by far than anywhere I've bought tires from. I think they sell Michellin if that's what you want.

Not a fan of Dunlops. Never had a set that rode or wore well. Don't like BFG's, although they do make a couple of decent tires for certain applications. Goodyears are decent for MOST applications, and Michelin possibly makes the best high-end tires for my particular uses.
So, that being said, what is the vehicle, how is it driven, and what kind of conditions?

More information added to the original post - hope that helps.

Out of your choices I'd go with Michelin... I'd suggest checking out Bridgestone too.

BF Goodrich FTW

Although I might suggest a set of Traction T/A over the Touring T/A (probably about $10 a tire more) as here in the Midwest we have snow in the winter :p

Nobody has the Traction T/As in stock. I tried ordering them through Walmart, and they were going to take ~3 weeks to get here (to HQ no less :p). I'm going to drive home for the holiday weekend, so I need them sooner than that.

Just got off the phone with my dad - I e-mailed him essentially the same info that's in the first post, and he said to go with either the BFGs or Michelins.

Question (even though everybody seems to dislike goodyear):

After digging around on the internet for a while, I've seen in several places that the Walmart-only Goodyear Viva Touring is supposedly the same as Goodyear's Regatta 2 - and that tire has some fairly good ratings on Tire Rack. Anybody have any idea if this is true or not?

Ive had the regatta 2 and it was a very good tire. Smooth and quiet.

Y'all know that BFG = Michelin, right?

I'd get the Michelin X's just because for $10 more, you get the instant rebate. Plus, you wont have to tire shop for a long time!
