Any frequent travelers here? This will be the first time I've ever shopped for airline tickets, so any help will be appreciated. I live in NW Arkansas, so the largest nearby airport is probably Tulsa Intl. The other airports around here are all smaller regional stops: Northwest Arkansas, Joplin, and Springfield (both in MO). I haven't really settled on a date yet, other than some time over the course of the coming summer. Maybe earlier if my friend in San Fransisco gets some free time. Suggestions?

A lot depends on your flexibility on when you'd like to fly. The advice on farewatcher is good, you might also subscribe to any deals e-mails offered by the big online companies (expedia, travelocity, orbitz, etc), as they oftentimes will offer last minute or short notice deals, especially to major airport destinations like San Francisco. If you can manage time off without having to let your boss know weeks in advance, that might be your best bet.

Honestly, I don't know if this happens anymore (since 9/11), but I remember years ago, you could always find someone with a ticket they'd gotten stuck with, advertising in the newspaper to sell it. Anyone know if that still occurs??

southwest has some special web fares right now, if you pick the right days, as low as $129 each way + junk fees, that is tulsa to san franciso airport, they also fly into san jose and oakland
